I did use carefresh but it got to expensive so I switched to purina yesterdays news cat and rabbit litter and love it so much better and it last such a long time. Alot of times ordering carefresh online through petco is alot cheaper then ordering it in the store and you can get free shipping if you purchase alot.

I use carefresh exclusively for my 4 buns. It DOES get expensive, but mt buns are picky about what they use on their buns

I just buy mine from petco

Yeah, petco.com has good prices because they often do have sales. You can also buy in bulk at petco.com… so the most you can get is 150L, which comes in 3 50L bags (the biggest size), but you pay less per L than if you were to buy just 1 50L bag. I think they have free shipping over a certain amount to.. or else it’s a flat rate $5.99- can’t remember.
DO be careful going to/shopping at petco though. They sell their own version of carefresh (and it’s actually made BY carefresh) BUT they add in baking soda. With “real” carefresh, there is no baking soda.
I do use it, sometimes in conjunction with wood stove pellets. One of my rabbits really wouldn’t care what I put in his litter box, but they other one gets sore feet easily so the carefresh is the best/safest option for him.

Has anyone noticed that when using Carefresh the smell of urine is more noticeable?

I am a former Carefresh user. When I dumped the poop/pee contents into the plastic bag is when I smelled urine. Otherwise, no smell at all.. hahah. I began using wood stove pellets last fall due to my work hours being cut.. even after I did get a new job, I still use WSP.

Check Petfooddirect.com. They have Carefresh for a really good price but you do have to pay shipping. It may come out to a little less petco.com depending on where you live…

I use carefresh for my bunny Bugsy, and it is great! I got a big bag for $17 at petsmart (mn) so i would assume that petsmarts in your area would be the same! But i for sure recomend getting it, it works GREAT!

Is baking soda dangerous to use in bunny cages? I use Carefresh and also don’t notice a strong smell until I dump out the litter pans. But lately Mr. Bun-Bun has been peeing wantonly everywhere. He pees outside of the litter pans (they’re twice his size and I don’t know how he does it. Whenever I see him, he’s completely in the box.) Maybe he’s peeing from the upper level and the pee is pooling on the bottom floor. Whatever’s going on, it’s stinky and gross, I’m cleaning constantly and using baking soda also (after sopping up the urine, I sprinkle baking soda on for awhile, then brush that away.)
So I guess the baking soda isn’t staying in the cage, he can’t ingest it. Just wondering what I can do. Maybe he was never really litter-trained, I got him at 1 year of age and he’s had so many issues with peeing on everything at all times, it’s a little confusing.
For the original question, I just kept using Carefresh which is what came with him when I adopted him. The big bags are 15 to 18 dollars at normal pet stores, and grossly overpriced at big box pet stores. Maybe I should try a different litter. The bags I use are compressed to 25.7 liters and double in size more or less.

I think it can be dangerous if it’s ingested. I wouldn’t think it’s dangerous if you rinse it out, but I’m not sure. Another alternative is to use white vinegar mixed with warm water and half a lemon squeezed into it as well. That’s how I clean everything now, including any accidents on the carpet!

I use a cat litter box and line it with a litter bag, then put some newspaper + carefresh + bunny safe wood bedding… that way the carefresh lasts a while! i add hay every day for the buns to nibble on… the love their litter box.. it’s hilarious

I got a 60 liter bag of carefresh for $22, It was my first time buying stuff for my rabbit so I’m not sure if it was a good price for it.
