Olive is doing way post op day two (spay) but I haven’t seen her drink anything.  She normally uses her water bottle, but I put a water dish in the cage for her, too.  I’ve also been giving her fresh greens in addition to her pellets and hay.  She is eating and pooping normally, and getting Metacam (you’d never know she had surgery, honestly) every morning. Incision looks normal, no drainage or swelling.  Her litterpan  indicates she *is* urinating–it’s just that I haven’t seen her drink anything.  Should I be concerned she’s not getting enough fluid?

When Powder got his surgery it was on a Friday, by Saturday afternoon he still hadn’t drank anything so I called my vet to ask about it. They told me if by Sunday he wasn’t drinking still, to dropper some water into his mouth and bring him in on Monday if he hadn’t started drinking by then. So I would ask your vet how they would like it handled. You can wet the greens down before feeding them to her so she gets more moisture out of them. At this point it’s fine, but my vet (who has treated rabbits for 20 years and is great with them) prefers they start drinking some by day 3 and wants to see them to make sure everything is OK if they haven’t.

To get Powder to drink I had to use his bottle (which he never uses since he prefers bowls) and hold it up for him to his face. No idea why he didn’t drink on his own, cause when I did that he drank a bunch and was obviously thirsty.

Edit: To monitor Powders water intake I would fill his bottle/bowl to a marking point so I would know for sure if he drank anything.

I called my vet’s office and they weren’t too concerned about it since she was urinating and making feces (and eating).  They said if she was dehydrated she wouldn’t be making feces.  I’ve offered her the water bottle and her crock of water as you suggested, to no avail (stubborn bunny).  Syringe feeding was an epic fail . It could be she’s getting sips in without my noticing, although she usually drinks about half of her water bottle per day, plus some sips from her crock when she’s out and about (obviously, she’s limited to her X pen for the time being).  I guess I”ll just have to wait and see.

I honestly wouldn’t worry so much over it. I NEVER see Kevin drink, yet he’s still alive . I know you’re concerned, but have faith in Olive. She will drink if she wants to. Some rabbits drink more than others and they really get more water from veggies than you would think. If she’s acting normal, then she’s probably ok.

THanks, TriBun!  I just witnessed her take a sip of water from her crock, so I think we’re ok .

She’s probably drinking when your not looking and depending on what greens you are offering she may be getting a lot of her fluid that way. I’d change the litter pan, and make note of the level of water in the bottle and dish and just watch for urine and/or evidence of drinking. But sounds like she’s doing well all around

When Tillie got home from her spay, she wasn’t drinking. So I dipped my finger in her water and let her lick it off. We continued this process for at least 10 minutes. It was the sweetest I have ever seen Tillie. **sigh**

Thanks guys for the encouragement and advice.  Olive wanted nothing to do with my water-dipped fingers, and i’ve only seen her go after the bottle once.  I have seen her sip dainitly out of the water crock a few times, plus I’ve been giving her greensm and she is peeing, though because her intake has dimished, so has her pee.  On the other hand, she has just as much energy as usual (begging to go outside the  X pen and play already) and I couldn’t be happier at the results of the spay.  Her incision site looks quite good.
