So who likes to read and what are you reading? I currently have 3 books going:
Schindler’s List
Good Rabbitkeeping
The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor: The Vampire Slayer (as told by Lucy Weston).
So far I’m enjoying them all.
I am currently reading The Help. I just finished A Stolen Life (Jaycee Dugard) and The Hunger Game series. All excellent reads!
Love reading!
I am reading
The Hunger Games trilogy again (Suzanne Collins)
Tick Tock (James Patterson)
The Sword of Truth series (Terry Goodkind)
and
Phoenix (Y’Hnoree’ Foster)
Lots of books going I read different books depending on where I am at.
I love reading too and I am having a secret love affair with my Nook Color (sshhhh don’t tell my husband!)
LOVE reading. Oh I’m so jealous you guys are reading The Hunger Games, that’s what I’m reading next. Right now I’m reading the Game of Thrones series (book 2, A Clash of Kings) by George R.R. Martin. It is very good, highly recommend it (definitely rated R though). They made an HBO series out of it, but I’ve never watched it.
FINALLY reading A Dance with Dragons, the fifth in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. ZOMG SO GOOD!
Also been reading:
Cleopatra: A Life, Stacy Schiff
Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma. Peter A. Levine
Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
Next book planned: The Return of the Native, Thomas Hardy
My books are quite varied, lol
Tribun, the HBO series is *amazing*
Ooh ooh, Lizzie, don’t tell me how it ends ![]()
Not me, I know you’re hooked now ; )
We have the first of the Game of Thrones waiting to be read. And I want to see the HBO series. I’ve heard really good things about The Hunger Games triology, so that is probably going to get put on the “long list” as I have about 21 books to read in my bookcase. Couldn’t do much fun reading while I was in nursing school, blah.
good rabbit keeping? is there a link to that? i’m interested lol.
I’m reading “The Girl Who Played with Fire.”
I got mine at Borders this past weekend at 60% off. It was the last one.
Not reading anything at the moment, but I have a book shelf full of books – mostly fantasy
I would recommend The Farseer Trilogy to anyone who likes fantasy
so good
I read R.R. Martin, but couldn’t get into it… so haven’t picked up the new book yet, will wait for it to be paper back. Only character I liked was Ned Stark and it verges on X rated in some places (the show skirts it in a few episodes
).
I really want to get an e-reader so I can just download books at home rather than having to go 40 miles to get to the nearest book store. Plus, every time I read in bed now I have to worry that it’ll fall in the floor and Powder will decide it’s a treat. lol
Sticker, don’t read the latest unless you’re read all the previous. You will get lost, very quickly.
That said, I am rereading the whole series, on book 3 now ![]()
I’m reading “Everyone Worth Knowing” by the lady who wrote “The Devil Wears Prada” – it’s a total chick lit. Sometimes it’s good to just have some mindless reading.
After that – not sure I have a huge shelf full of books beckoning me and I”m almost done with the one above.
Sarita-I can relate. That’s why I’ve read the Twilight Series *lowers head in shame*. But I do love the Sookie Stakhouse novels, VERY chiclit.
I want to read the Snookie series some day. I love Janet Evanovich’s, Stephanie Plum series too – if you love chicklit then you will love her. She’s a bounty hunter and the characters in her series are memorable…I have lots of friends who just love her!
They are a quick, fun read. I don’t know if you watch the show, I do and LOVE it, but the show is loosely based on the series. The series can hold it’s own, I love the direction HBO has taken with it.
I didn’t know HBO had a Snookie series – I’ll have to check it out.
It’s the show True Blood.
If you like the Sookie series, the magic/supernatural stuff, I suggest the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It’s great ![]()
I’ve put down my pleasure reading books for the next few months since school has started, but this summer I had time to do a lot more leisure reading than I have in a long time.
– Cutting for Stone (Abraham Verghese)
– Norwegian Wood (Haruki Murakami)
– The Years of Salt and Rice (Kim Stanley Robinson)
– A Thousand Splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini)
– The Enchantress of Florence (Salman Rushdie)
The Rise of the Fourth Reich-Jim Marrs
Codex Magica – Texe Marrs
listening to the bahgavad gita on audiobook at night
I was just thinking about started a thread like this the other day.
Just finished “Silver Sparrow”. Awesome book about a man who has two families and how they deal with this info.
And I just started reading “The Help” (from the new movie that’s coming out). So far, it’s really good!
Sonn – I read all of the Hunger Games recently – I liked them
Mostly I listen to books while I am doing other things like running or needle felting. It can make house work go a lot easier!
Currently: The Killing Dance, Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, book 6 – Laurell K. Hamilton, fun, fun, fun
Recently read that was really good:
1906 – James Dalessandro (a novel about San Fran earthquake)
the Art Thief – Noah Charney
the Codex Alera Series – Jim Butcher, same guy who did The Dresden Files – I have not read them
Framley Parsonage – Anthony Trollope – If you like Jane Austen you’ll like this
A few Ngaio Marsh mysteries,
Hmm, classics, vampires, fantasy, mystery – I’m all over the place.
You should see my Audible and Library wish lists!
Sage, I love Austen. I have Sense and Sensibility in my purse right now, have yet to open it. What is Framley Parsonage about?
I’m writting down ALL these titles
I have a hard time picking ebooks-it’s easy to go into a book store and find lots but ebooks where I can’t really browse-well I’m stumped. Yes I’ve gone into the book store to browse -presumedly to buy the ebook later but I always walk out with an armful and I really don’t have room. So I’m going to steal all these suggestions
Currently reading ‘dead until dark’ (of the true blood series, not sure if I like it; bought the series so Im prepared to be hooked…)
Interview with a vampire (thought I’d try Anne Rice…not liking it so much)
Hope for Animals and their World-
Dexter in the Dark
Waste Land and other poems
Skeleton Crew
On the Origin of Species
(Can you tell I am scatterbrained? lol)
I just finished the Max series (Teen fiction… my excuse is I didn’t read teen novels when I was a teen, went strait to horror, so I get to read them now lol )it was a great series and there is a new one coming out next spring
@ Arthurs’ mom… pssstt….I just finished the Twilight series-for the fifth time…So no hanging your head-hard to when your laughing at me lol ![]()
Wow, a lot of readers here. I’m a total book nerd. I mostly read historical fiction but I love all books, both fiction and non-fiction.
I just started a new book by one of my fave authors: “The Secret Life of Josephine” by Carolly Erickson. It’s about Napoleon Bonaparte’s wife.
The last book I finished was “Secrets of the Tudor Court- The Pleasure Palace” which I enjoyed. I have no willpower with any Tudor-related books. I see them and have to snatch them up. I buy books much faster than I read them. I have about 20 books in a “to read” pile but I just can’t stop buying them. So many wonderful books. Not enough time to read!
K&K – Hope for Animals and their world. What is that about?
About Anne Rice, if you don’t like “Interview “you probably won’t like any of her other books. I have most of them, I went through a little goth/vampire phase, but I only actually enjoyed a couple of them (“The Witching Hour “being my fave). A few I actually had to stop reading because I just couldn’t take it anymore (and I really hate to do that! I usually stick with a book till the end). I’m actually selling my collection of Anne Rice because I know I won’t read them again. I find her very over-rated.
I’m reading “Clash of Kings” which is the second book in the “Game of Thrones” series by George RR Martin. I’m going back and forth between one book from this series and one book from the Harry Potter series (just finished HP4 before starting this book). Haha. I have read Harry Potter before, but I wanted a nice easy read for the summer (plus it’s long, so I won’t finish it off in one weekend and have nothing else to read).
After I finish these series, I think I’ll go to Dickens’ “Dombey and Son”. I only have a few more to go before I have a complete Dickens collection.
Tribun, looks like we’re reading the same thing! How far along are you? I haven’t seen the HBO series either – I’m waiting for the dvds on Netflix.
How is the Hunger Games? I’ve heard good things, but I’m still not sure.
I have read the others Monkey, they are on my shelf… the series just never caught me so in no rush to read 5 and don’t mind waiting for the paperback lol
I think my next book purchase will be the Xanth stuff I havent read yet ![]()
My mom got me the entire Xanth series when I was younger, was tons of fun! Be prepared for alot of puns, though in later novels it gets a little less punny
Haven’t read the last couple though. Great series though ![]()
I read the early stuff when I was in England – my friends mother had the entire series (up to that point). Haven’t read the last 5ish of them though, need to catch up.
I like that he takes the puns from his readers emailed suggestions and even puts in characters from stories people tell him of real life people (like friends/relatives that died end up in Xanth as guests), not many people with that popular a book series still pay that much attention to their fans.
