Silly iPad only let’s me respond to topics, never create the body of one lol!

So what’s in your bunny evacuation kit? Do you plan on a cage or pen (like in the car or something) or do you rely on just a carrier? I don’t think I’m going to have to think about evacuating but this hurricane has certainly made me wonder!

I don’t normally go out and stock up on things for events like this… But then thought of my bunnies and realized that omg even though I don’t need bottled water or a way to purify it, they do! So off I ran during the middle of the workday to stock up!

Here’s a good article about a small pet disaster kit:

An important thing to pack in a disaster kit is baby simethicone. A stressed out bunny can lead to tummy upsets and simethicone can help with that. Also towels and baby blankets.

And an article about emergency evacuation with pets:

Thanks! Didn’t even think about the simethicone!

                Those are good articles.
Where I currently live, evacuations are not common. However, in the past I have lived in high fire areas. It is a very frightening thing to think about. Being prepared makes all the difference.

Not a whole lot of danger where we live. If anything our biggest threat is loss of power, which affect my reptiles more then anything and I have a huge box of air activated hand warmers for when that happens. Tornadoes would be our next biggest threat and they are seldom. I think my immediate area has only been tornado warned once and I have been here since 2007. But if the weather looks dicey to me, and I am good about that sort of thing. I will just stick close to home and put the cats in the basement for a while with some food and litter. That way all that needs to be done is put the rabbit in a carrier, and head down with her and the dog. We live near-ish to a lot of plants and refineries, so a hazmat is not out of the question. But we load up all the critters and head to my moms. My biggest fear is something like fire or a gas leak. I would run into this burning house for my lizards if I had to. That is just how we are.

so I officially was evacuated and packed up all the bunnies belongings and also purchased some critical care just in case… but they bunnies seem to be doing well… and are adjusting to their new temp home.

Be careful Joyfull, there have already been tornadoes spawned by the hurricane that have done damage in some places.

We are also lucky that we are in an area where we don’t have to evacuate either. I have all arthur’s essentials in a rubbermaid
tub, with his old cage ready just in case. We have the normal candles and flashlights and plenty of bottled water and I filled up a giant pot of water so we’d have it for teeth brushing and such. My biggest concern is the cars and the many large trees in the area.

I always keepy pet stuff in those tubs btw. Keeps everything cleaned and organized and always at the ready. In arthur’s tub there even is enough space for him, god forbid I need to throw him in urgently.
