I know you may not see this and you may be out of service for awhile but I am sending huge vibes your way.
Irene looks terrifying – that’s what the Space Station Astronauts say and that’s what the photo’s look like – she’s a monster and quite amazing too. Knowing we can see this – it does make me wonder what people who didn’t have our amazing technology must have thought.
Anyway, my thoughts are with you – stay safe.
Thanks, Sarita.
I checked the places that were evacuated to see how many of my friends might need a place to stay – and discovered that the house I lived in last year is under MANDATORY evacuation. Pretty floored to see that. Fortunately, most of my friends nearby are being smart and moving further inland (that city floods like no other) to another friend’s house.
HJ came back home for the weekend. His school evacuated, but his apartment didn’t. He decided to come home anyway.
We humans and the bunnies and dog will be safe, but I’m worried about my mom’s horses. The barn is rickety and looks ready to fall over, so they’re braving it outside.
This is a nice post Sarita. I have been thinking about our East Coast members too. I keep checking the latest news on my android. I am so concerned.
Though I am all the way across country on safely on the other side, this has made me so worried for others.
I was reading how some people, who were in the path, were just going to take their chances and stick around. I can’t believe it, why take a chance on one of the biggest storms in U.S. history. I think I would rather take a chance of it actually happening and get to shelter. I’d rather go through some inconvenience and leave the house, rather than take a chance on my life.
I too looked at the raw satellite video and thought..OMG.
My thoughts are with you all too! Lis, I hope your horses too will be okay.
Haven’t been on in awhile, but definitely want to send some safety vibes to our East Coast members. (((((((((((((((((((((((be safe)))))))))))))))))))))))))
Up here in NB, it’s always unpredictable how much of the storm will be left after it goes through the states. We have yet “knocking on wood” to have a bad hurricane here, it usually dies down when it gets to us. I’m not overly near water I don’t have to worry about that at least. If it gets bad I will move myself and my animals to the basement where there are only tiny windows.
Wishing everyone (((((Stay Safe))))) vibes as well! Hunker down your bunnies!
Thanks everyone! Getting ready to move the buns out of their window lined bedroom and into more central area of the house.
Where are you, cainan?
What a sweet post! So far it’s just drizzly here. We’re not near the coast, but we’re still in the “extreme weather” parts of the map. I hope it’s just a bad thunderstorm and things are uneventful! Good luck to everyone who is closer to the coast
Thank you everyone….It really means a lot. As an update….Yesterday my town was put under a mandatory evacuation ( I live in Ortley beach NJ, which is part of the barrier reef island). I was able to secure most of my home, we werent able to board the windows but taped them and put plastic over them, we also elevated as many items as we possibly could and put sandbags in place. Im hoping all of this is for nothing…but Im very frightened that my home will be under water…Cady and Sophie are with me at my boyfriends parents home, they have been amazing and have allowed me and the bunnies to take over their lower level. They seem to be adjusting well, and so far have been eating and using their litter boxes as normal (Ive even caught a few binkies). Ive taken extra measures purchasing critical care and extra greens for them. My one fear is that due to my profession as a Paramedic I will be mandated to go into work..but Im hoping this doesnt occur because the last thing I want to do is leave Cady and Sophie….but again thank you everyone…there a good chance my power here will be knocked out so who know what will happen with the internet. Goodluck to all others affected!
Good luck everyone! I hope you all are safe
Looks like we are not going to be getting much of Irene’s wrath, thankfully. Just lots of rain today and tonight and there’s a high wind warning but should only reach about 100k of wind. Nothing much. I’m glad we live so far North that these storms are usually tired when they get to us.
I’m hoping no one was injured or sustained devastating damage south of us. I don’t have the news channel so not sure how hard it hit you guys down there.
We were lucky. It turned into a Tropical Storm before it hit us. Crazy winds started around 5:00 a.m. this morning (which initiated some stomping…not sure who was ticked off at Irene). We lost some big branches off our Maple trees but nothing major. It’s still crazy windy. My bf got the day off work from framing houses. I think we might lose power though…lights are flickering.
East coasters, check in! I hope everybody’s doing ok after the storm.
It was windy and rained like crazy yesterday, but we didn’t have any issues – no water in the basement, no tree limbs on our roof. Thank goodness! We still have power. We lost internet for a while yesterday and I hear it’s out again today, but if that’s our only problem I’m not worried.
I lived in CT until a few weeks ago and apparently it’s a huge mess – 500k households are without electricity and that’s in a state with only 3+ million people. I actually have to drive back there today for an allergy shot (I wasn’t able to find a new doctor in NY yet) and I’m curious to see how things are.
I couldn’t be on my computer yesterday, but I want to add my well-wishes to the east-coasters. Yes, please check in, we worry.
TaraMichele, I know you must have been flooded pretty bad in Ortley Beach
I’m glad you weren’t home, but now comes the cleanup, huh?
Hoping the best for all of you.
I lucked out in my exact location but about 20 minutes away from me in all directions was havoc. Lots of places wrecked, roads closed everywhere. And it’s even worse in my boyfriend’s home town in Vermont which was evacuated.
We’re very very lucky and this has made me realize I really should have an emergency plan ready in case something like this happens again and it does effect me.
No damage here, aside from Jay (mom’s horse) freaking out, breaking out of his stall, and damaging someone else’s stall.
HJ went back to his place today, and said everything’s fine there.
We lucked out. A lot of the state (RI) is without power but we only lost it for a split second. If you go down the street, lots of people have no power. None of the traffic lights are working within a mile radius of the house. They are saying about 5-6 days without power. School for the kids was cancelled for today and tomorrow. Our neighbors tree in the back yard cracked into 2 and his neigbor on the other side had a tree that cracked in two or three. Also my neighbor’s free standing bball pole which is between our front yards, fell over. I’m lucky that it fell towards his yard and not toward our driveway and onto my car. I still don’t know why he didn’t take it down BEFORE the storm. I would have been *&%$#@ if it had fallen on my car. My boyfriend’s sister owns a cabin in VT and as far as we know it survived any major damage. She lives in NJ and I don’t know if she has even been to check on her home there as she was out of town durning the storm. Cross your fingers her place and the cabin are ok.

This was the worst of it in our yard. You can see a bit of the tree standing in the background with large branch that cracked and fell into the neighbors yard.
