So Im sure most people have heard about Hurricane Irene…well as of now looks like Im being evacuated tomorrow…and Im definitely freaking out a bit.  Im sooo lucky to have a great support system, my boyfriends parents are taking me Sophie and Cady for however long may be necessary and Im hoping to make them as comfortable as possible.  If anyone has any advice or tips to make the move easier for them, or to hurricane proof I’d greatly appreciate it….

When I moved Lolli, I think the biggest help was to set up her area in the same exact way as possible. I set up her pen the same way at my dad’s the same as I always had it. I also think restricting their space will help. Even if they will eventually have a whole room or free range, allowing them a confined space doesn’t overwhelm them and makes them feel safer. And even if you aren’t able to set up their full living space at your boyfriend’s parents place, keeping some things the same will help. Like keep their litterboxes, bowls, and toys in the same general spots at the new space as where they currently are.

As we know, rabbits are creatures of habits. Lolli never seems to mind when her things change places. A lot of times, she moves her stuff around. lol So she handled moving to my dad’s fine. Just remember that they might get stressed and be grumpy with you, but they really are fine. Good luck! I would be soooo scared if I had to deal with hurricanes!

Oh no! Be safe! You are in NJ, right? I have family there- my grandparents are in Monmouth County.
I’ve moved my rabbits around a lot. They have different personalities so they get treated differently. Velvateen loves cuddles and kisses and everything. He definitely gets extra! Fievel loves to be talked to, so I generally talk out loud a lot- it’s about anything… weather, news, whatever. Hehe. Many many treats are also involved. Like Michelle said, try to keep the same general set up. If it’s not possible, at least try to keep the same schedule. Where ever we go, my boys have the same schedule- breakfast at 7:30, lunch between 1-2pm, dinner at 8:30. Even such a small thing like this can keep them assured that nothing bad is happening. Also, make sure to keep them together!

                  Good luck!

I’m a bit nervous about the whole thing … up in NY they’re saying it should be around a 1-2 cat hurricane by the time it hits. That’s still a lot! We just moved into our new house and it’s surrounded by woods and trees, so I’m pretty nervous. The last thing I need is huge repairs right now!
