Hello everyone!
So, an update to my search for lower prices while retaining quality … I have a number of farm feed stores in my area, so I did some field research. I can get horse stall pellets for $5.30 (the Lowes wood pellets are no good…stay away!). I think $5.30 is still a great price for 40 pounds of litter, which will still bring my budget down. I am currently paying $11 for a 24 pound bag of Fresh News (kind of like Yesterday’s News).
My big concern is the food. I can get a 20lb bag of Sweet Meadow Timothy Pellets for $21 (when it is in stock at my local pet store), or $27 from Sweet Meadow Farm (shipping kills!!!)
BUT, I can get a 50lb bag of Big Red Rabbit’s Choice Rabbit Food for $15.99 or a 50lb bag of Purina Rabbit Chow for $16.25.
Obviously, these pellets are not 100% timothy hay. Does everyone here shun these brands? I know I have my doubts, but I need to save money and I am spending $60/month of bunny supplies. :-( But, I don’t want the poor guy to suffer.
What are your thoughts on the 2 50lb bags of rabbit food? Are they no good and I should stay away? or will my little guy still have a wonderful life with this type of food.
Thanks!!!
