Which Purina Rabbit Chow is it? Not all of their products are terrible and I know of some rabbit rescues that use this. However I have to say that a very large bag – 50lb will go bad quickly if you don’t use it up in a reasonable amount of time. How many rabbits do you have? Pellets are the smallest part of a rabbit’s diet and honestly they are not that expensive.

Your cost is going to be in fresh vegetables, not pellets.

I think the horse stall pellets are a great choice – that’s what I use.

Honestly, pellets are the smallest amount of their diet. So, I would go for the highest quality you can. Alfalfa pellets are NOT recommended for adult buns, and I know for a fact the Purina ones are alfalfa.

PLUS, how many rabbits do you have? Pellets don’t stay fresh very long, and such a high quantity is only worth it if you have lots of rabbits.

when i took buddy to the vet for his initial checkup the vet told me not to buy much more then a months supply of pellets at a time because over time the lose their nutirtional value

I second the pellet thing. It takes me 2 months to go through a 5 pound bag of pellets (that’s for 1 rabbit). And towards the end of the bag she’ll start to refuse them because they’re not fresh enough (picky little butt). When you break it down, that’s only about $3 a month in pellets, so that shouldn’t be your biggest expense. Are you feeding him hay?

Look for good quality hay at local farms / feed stores – some places you can get a whole bale of hay for like $5, which would cut down costs a lot. For bedding, horse stall pellets are fine.

You can start a little box garden for help on fresh veggies costs as well, if you are any good with plants ( I kill every plant I touch, so I just buy greens lol )

Go for a high quality pellet imo, purina is alfalfa based and pretty low quality.

You probably will notice the horse stall bedding will make a difference. They’re cheap to begin with but you also don’t need to use a lot of them each time either. Just a layer in the bottom of the litter box.
