Hi everyone,
I posted awhile back here about my bunny Rachel being sick. Well she is sick again and i’m at a loss. . She’s been to the vet every week this month and sometimes multiple times in a week.
She started her relapse after she stopped the de-wormer and she started doing the head twitch/ “noing” again. So i took her to the vet. The first time Dr. Jeanne told me then that she would look into getting Rachel a stronger dewormer and that she’ll probably have to be on it for the rest of her life. Then I noticed that her head seemed to stray and stay a lot to the left. So i made an appointment and had my mother take her in (I work full time m-f). I wrote everything out, took and printed pictures, and made a place for Dr. Jeanne to write things out. Dr. Jeanne said she had some drainage in her one ear and that she might have an infection in it. She also believes that the encphalitozoon cuniculi is still the blame. She said that her pupils were not responding to the light normally which makes me worried and that she still has some nystagmus (eye shift). She was put on baytril, metacam, and a new dewormer, albendazole, which she’ll have to stay on for the rest of her life.
Then she went in again last week. I had noticed some blood on the pen floor when i had gotten up that morning and couldn’t figure out where it was from. I called in the afternoon during my lunch break and had my mother check on Rachel. Turned out it was from her butt. I made her rush her to the vet and played phone tag through my lunch break. Dr. Don did tests and check a poo sample. He said there was some cuts on her butt, but he didn’t see any signs of internal bleeding. He put her on a new antibiotic and a medicine to stop the bleeding. She didn’t bleed anymore, but she gained a fever.
The fever hasn’t left. She was in two days later with Dr. Brady. We noticed that her one eye had some blood/bruise on the top of her eyeball, but none on her bum. She’s been in yesterday and today with a high fever (104-105). She’s had IV’s every time she’s been to the vet, but the fever isn’t responding to that or the antiobitcs. She is on metacam again. She still has the nystagmus, Dr.Jeanne said her left eye is prodtruding, and she doesn’t really like to walk on this one leg. Kinda of holds it up (it was checked though). She’s not eating a lot (been giving her critical care) and i haven’t really seen her move around a bit. (Not all that unusual). She got a bunch of blood tests today and if they don’t come back with anything i have to take her to a specialist this weekend.
I’m at my wits end. My bank account is in a laughable stake and i’m so very worried over my baby. I almost started crying when i was talking to the exotic specialist to see if they have payment plans (they had two possible ones). Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with my baby girl????
