Before Toby, I was able to put up grids to keep Tillie out of areas that were a no no (like behind the TV). Well, the grids (or neat cubes) don’t hold Toby back. He hops over and yanks it down with his teeth. I am at my wits end, as one place they are NOT allowed (aside from behind the TV) is behind the couch. We have light cords back there, and the latest trouble they have created is chewing the liner that is stapled to the under side of the sectional. Oh and the corner of my leather sectional, yikes! I was not a happy bun mom!! And today we could not find Tille. She was IN the sectional, yes IN IT! Toby was loafing near the sectional and looked quite please that he helped his wifey poo to get back there.
Does anyone have any other idea to keep Mr. Toby from getting where he doesn’t belong. I have tried to rig the grids in a fashion where he could not pull on them, but the little bugger, I mean bun still figures it out. Help!!
I’m afraid this is probably going to be a really attractive place for them now. I’m not sure if grids will be enough. Did Tillie get up inside from the torn base lining?
Do you have the couch up against or well away from a wall? I’m thinking if it is against a wall, try putting a tube tunnel running along the back so they can go there but at the same time it will block the cords and the underside of the couch. Does that make sense? Even a “tunnel” made out of the NIC grids. It’d do the same thing and not be able to be moved back or forth. Mind you, probably won’t look very discreet but it sounds like you’re using grids anyway.
I found by accident that mine avoided places where I put those air freshner plug ins. They were never plugged in long cause I couldn’t handle the smell after a while. Perhaps if you put a small one behind the couch, it will deter them. Not a plug in one, but like Febreeze has that little plastic holder that holds the oil cartridge that you can place on end tables, etc. Something like that.
I also had to block Lolli from the back of my recliner cause she kept chewing at it. The only thing that worked was blocking it off with the grids and then anchoring the grids with weight of the recliner so she couldn’t move them. I used zip ties to attach them together.

Yes, Tillie got up inside from the chewed/torn base lining (thank goodness my husband loves the buns too, as we JUST bought this sectional!! lol). I will try the bent grid idea, that might work well. Even when we push the couch against the wall, there is still enough space to get back there. I have wedged the grid between the wall and couch (and gouged the paint off the wall) and he still manages to yank it free.

I am trying to picture how you anchored it? Sounds like that would work as well, but cannot imagine how I can anchor the grids to the sectional.
Oh and Michelle, I have some plug ins in various spots and they could care less. I wish that would work as I have found appealing scents and get the plug ins that you can turn up or down, adjusting the scent release. I have even sprayed the grid with no bite bitter spray, Toby just laughs at me as he yanks the grid down!
How about stinky perfume?
My recliner is a rocker so it had two narrow base pieces that stuck out the back. I zip tied 3 grids together. Zip tying made it easier to position the grids. I used another 3 grids to block my power strip that I used to plug in my laptop and phone charger. Since the recliner had the two pieces narrow enough, I was able to lift the recliner a tad and slip the two “feet” of it into holes on the grids to anchor it. When I get my digital camera from my dad, I’ll take a picture of my recliner. lol
For the grids around the power strip, I put the end table flush against the wall and the couch flush against the end table and slipped the ends of the grids in between the wall/end table and end table/sofa to anchor it. She never messed with that one though but she did like to play her “no-no game” with my laptop cord. Since the laptop cord was off the floor better, she quit messing with it. The no-no game was her darting up, nudging/nibbling the cord and binkying off when I told her no. Hence, the no-no game. LOL
I also found that I had to stuff my sheet that I put down on my couch in between the couch and end table. I had to shove the rest hanging off the couch under the couch to block her from continuing to chew up the bottom piece of the couch. And I’m pretty sure I ended up pushing the couch flush against the wall to prevent the little stinkers from getting back there. lol I’m now living with my dad so I can’t remember.
I believe others have had luck simply buying some 2x4s and creating a “box” around furniture (ie beds, etc) to prevent the adorable stinkers from getting underneath or tearing stuff up.
Once again, they sure are lucky they are cute sometimes, aren’t they? LOL
Michelle~
Thanks for the worded visual! I am pretty sure I have outsmarted the little cutie!! It looks hideous, but who cares. Love me, love my buns (and hideous contraptions!). I also have to add how funny it is that Tillie and Toby work as a team. I was watching them last night after I rigged my grids and while Toby pulls, Tiliie pushes with her head. LOL! I LOVE MY BUNNIES!!
I have the perfect soloution!!!!
I’ll take Take Toby home with me! Then he wont cause anymore sectional damage! lol ![]()
HAHA! Puddlejumper, not a chance!! Who needs a sectional anyway??!! ![]()
They’re just making it more sectional that’s all.
So what did you end up doing?
Jerseygirl~
I took a grid and bent it. I then wedged that between the wall and sectional leg (like you suggested making a tunnel with grids). But because the sectional curves, it comes away from the wall more in the middle. So with the wedged, bent grid, I ziptied another bent grid on top of one on floor. (that is wedged and between wall and leg). Then I ziptied another unbent grid to both grids. So far so good, no more bunnies trying to “nest” in my sectional!!
Oh good! That was clever bending them. Use less grids that way and you can custom fit it. Hope it continues to do the trick.
