I just wanted to share this with everyone. These laws were recently passed (07/01/11).

“allows judges to prohibit those convicted of or who plead nolo contendre to animal abuse from owning or living with animals for five years if the abuse is considered a misdemeanor, 15 years if it is a felony. Anyone subject to such a ban who violates it would be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000, along with confiscation of the animal or animals involved.”

This a GREAT news! Proud of my little state! Now lets hope the judges do the right thing.

In California, it was just made illegal to sell animals at flea markets/on the street.

It is a sad cycle and I hope that it stops!

Thank you for posting this ;D

Thanks. There was a case in Dec/Jan that got the ball rolling, then we had a case in July that would have been under the new law. Luckily the guy is getting charge in Ma (whose laws are even tougher–yay!). Here is a link: http://www.rispca.com/Indi.htm **there are pictures that may upset some people** I’ve been keeping updates on this little guy, our family has donated money for his care and we are doing the walk they have for the animals next weekend and have raised 200.00 so far. We also are going to volunteer as a family at the RI SPCA, hopefully soon (we are waiting to hear about another orientation). Now that I am out of school, I am hoping to do more work for our furry friends, including advocating for the little buggers.

There was a case up in Canada that actually got a man banned from owning animals for life. I hope the laws get like that here in the states.
