My bunny Oreo is generally a very energetic bunny who can’t wait to get out of her cage in the morning, comes sprinting to the sound of a treat bag, and likes to be handled if she’s not exploring. Recently she has not wanted to come out of her cage in the morning no matter what I do. I try tempting her with treats, and picking her up but whenever I get near her she dashes under her shelf. This is not like her at all. She has already been spayed/neutered. The past couple of days she has stayed under the shelf in her cage ALL day, she did not want to come out what so ever. She’s still eating and drinking normally but should I be concerned? Should I take her to the vet?

        Thanks

For me, my first instinct is if my rabbit is acting unusual is to always rule out any medical problems and if they check out good then I go from there.

My opinion, just because they are eating and drinking, doesn’t necessarily mean they feel good – I’ve had rabbits who I know are uncomfortable still eat and drink, but they had issues (bladder sludge, arthritis, urinary tract infections, etc…) – I think just like humans, we get headaches, UTI’s, allergies, we still continue in some capacity to act normal (in some way) because our instinct is to survive.

So, I guess my opinion, is see the vet and have a physical exam and a talk with the vet and go from there :~)

I agree with Sarita – I would go in to the vet to have any problems ruled out.

I’m with Sarita and Elrohwen- best to see a vet and make sure Oreo is alright healthwise. Like Sarita said, bunnies don’t always stop eating when they’re sick. When they get gas or GI stasis, it’s very dramatic as in they stop eating and are obviously in pain. But when BunBun had his bladder sludge/UTI problem, at first he still ate and even hopped around quite a bit. He just wasn’t himself though- he wasn’t as enthusiastic about things as usual.
Once you see the vet, you’ll know what you’re dealing with. And if Oreo does have some illness, an early vet visit will save her lots of discomfort. It’s so good to be tuned in to how your bunnies behave, like you are . Good luck with the vet visit- keep us posted.
