I was inspired by the comments on this post, which is trying to find a way to recycle old prescription bottles – which between my ADHD and my mom’s lack of thyroid and arthitis, we have a TON of. Most locales won’t recycle them.

Here’s what I did – I grabbed the bottle, washed it inside and out throughly, and then put a bell and some beads inside. You could probably use marbles or something similar. I was thinking maybe rice would work, but I’m too paranoid about her chewing the bottle open and eating it.

Navi loves it because she’s a tosser and shover. She LOVES pushing it around. She seemed to really enjoy shoving it down the ramp in her cage.

Good idea! I like the idea of the bells inside it so it makes even more noise!

              Great idea.

If you want a rice-like noise maker, try putting in pellets. The smell will probably make them crazy too.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of pellets. And I have some old alfalfa pellets left over from their baby-dom that she won’t eat.

That’s an excellent idea – sounds so easy to make. I have some old prescription bottles that I can’t recycle so I’m going to it right now. Thanks!

Thanks for that great idea, the wheels of imagination are turning, I like the idea of putting pellets inside, the bun could probably smell them through the plastic.

                      I do that too!

And another thing I do with them is if you cut a little hole in it with a sharp knife, and fill it with pellets, they’ll push it around to get the pellets to fall out. That was Bunny’s “treat dispenser” until I could find a “proper” one. But I still do it since they’re easier to fill xD

BunnyAndJack – Do you cut with a sharp knife a hole through the plastic bottle or through the plastic lid?

I cut it in the side of the bottle, so that when they roll it around the pellets/treats come out.

The lid would be interesting, I’m sure they would figure out they had to fling it to get it to come out..I’ll have to try cutting the lid.

The only thing is to just make sure the lid is always on tight because if for whatever reason it came off, and there were pellet or other treats that would entice a bunny to shove his/her nose deeper into the prescription bottle, (especially if it was the wider bottles where it is more possible, I’d be afraid it would get stuck on and cause a bunny to suffocate if he couldn’t get it off with his/her paws.

BunnyAndJack – Thank you! i’ll try that.

BB – I think I would ask the pharmacy to give me the child-prevention safety cap that can’t be worked off unless it’s first pressed down hard and twisted on the bottle on a hard surface, to prevent the bunny’s nose from becoming stuck in the bottle.
