If they actually eat the plastic then that wouldn’t be so good for them but small amounts should pass — just keep an eye on their digestion, making sure they poop everyday. Most bunnies will chew but then leave the pieces lying around.

One thing that has worked for me in the past is to go to a flooring store and check out any of their laminate remnants. They are great for using under pens. You can use them in cages too, but you’d have to keep the edges curved up a bit so that urine could not get underneath. And unless the edge of the laminate is secured with a border of some sort is sounds like your bunnies would likely chew on it. Wood flooring wouldn’t be good because wood will soak in the urine….and the smell.
I would try the xpen method and extend the flooring just slightly outside of the pen, or if you prefer a cage, then just make sure you fasten the edge of a laminate type flooring with a metal border.
