So today on our cycle home from a day out at Ponyo’s favourite place, we stopped in at our pet shop to pick up some pellets as we’d be out soon (and some treat sticks because he’s a good boy and stuff), and after playing with the shop assistants who have been in love with him since he came to me a year and a half ago, and being given free pellets, we decided to go and look at the new bunnies.

Now, I’m not one for buying bunnies from pet shops, I just like to see all the different kinds when they get some in and go OHHH CUUUUTE for about half an hour.

As you guys may remember, I’ve always thought of getting him a girlfriend, but wondered if he’d ever find the right one…
I think it’s happening very soon.

I set his bike basket down by the glass, and two of the little ladies (mini lion lops, gorgeous ones) pottered off for a hug at the back, but one of them, a little black cutie with white lips, like some glam rocker lipstick, started sniffing at him.

After about ten seconds they ended up with her pawing at the glass and licking it at him. And he started nudging it. ANd face rubbing it.
It was the absolute face meltingly cutest thing I have ever seen.

So now she’s been dubbed the “widow licker” by the pet shop, and I told them I was interested. They’re going to encourage the other two before her, if anyone buys bunnies, so I can have some time to evaluate and finally decide, but I think I might have found Ponyo his girlfriend.

        Love at first sight? <3

He’s fixed and she was only a teeny tiny baby so I’d like to think their little glass-seperated snuggle session wasn’t just for humpy reasons.
I’m sort of excited by how happy he seemed. <3

What do you guys think? Assuming I can get my affairs in order and sort her a cage of her own by the end of the week, should I ask them to reserve her formally? I was always going to get a rescue bunny with a good nature around his age for bonding, but this seems to be some kind of bunny soulmate experience, haha.

Will I have any problems bonding my one and a half year old with a little baby? They seem to be under 11 weeks, they were so small and cuddly. I Doubt it, seeing them today, but you know~ <3

LONG POST! Seems to be a habit of mine, sorry. xD

Well you have more restraint that me, thats good! haha!

I bonded my male with a baby female before she was spayed. I knew the risks that it might not work out after since she would smell differently ….when it came down to that day though I was scared stiff hoping that I didn’t ruin their bond. I don’t know if it’s worth the risk to you.

If you do have to separate them at anytime remember you will have to deal with poo wars and possibly some pee wars.

I dug up my bonding experience with baby to adult, it was fun to re-read this and see these photos. Awww I love my pair

          Best wishes

I would wait until she is spayed to bond. Females can get VERY territorial when they hit bunny puberty. Bonds have broken due to it. Better to be safe than sorry

              Thank you for sharing that link! <3 Ponyo is a real sweetheart, but a bit jealous. That was my only worry. Jealousybun. Oh my gosh your buns are so cute together! It makes me almost feel bad for leaving my little guy friendless for so long purely because I hated the idea of bunny rejection. xD;

Yes, waiting for her spay would be the best for bonding, I'm sure. Thank you!
But would I be able to keep the little guys in the same room as each other, so long as they weren't free roaming the areas at the same time?
You could, just make sure they can’t get to each other through the bars.

Well, that isn’t really a guarantee of an easy bond since they really did not interact with each other. I think it sounds a bit like you are amorphisizing because you fell in love with her…that’s not to say it can’t happen but again, not guarantee this is love at first site. That rarely happens with rabbits and she will be going through adolescence and that cute behavior is going to probably change and what you once thought was love, may not be so lovely anymore.

This is not a soulmate experience and it isn’t love at first sight. For all you know she was licking her own reflection. I would recommend you go with your original plan of adopting an adult rabbit who has already been altered, and allowing Ponyo to truly interact and pick out his own mate. I’m not saying that the baby would not work eventually, but there is a big chance that they might never bond, even after she is spayed.

I have to agree with Beka and Sarita on this one – I think there’s so anthropomorphizing going on here and the chance of it being true love are slim. If you want to get this girl, get her because *you* like her, not because you think Ponyo will get along with her. In any case where bunnies aren’t introduced first as fixed adults, there’s a chance that they won’t get along after puberty and it could be a very difficult bond. Just be prepared to possibly have them live separated for the long run.

Oh, I can’t stand it! I’m dying to get a friend for my little Rosy, but I’m waiting to get her spayed. I keep drooling over the pictures of the rabbits at the sanctuary, just trying to guess who it will be. It’s not my decision though

I just wanted to add that I’ve noticed baby bunnies are pretty much enamored with any adult bunny. While the babies at the pet store are too cute, they will easily find a home. Think of all the great (spayed and neutered) adult bunnies waiting at the shelter . Also, I too have witnessed the insanity of a female bunny coming into maturity. The get pretty mean with their little boy pals. Stay strong Ahvo, resist the cuteness

Thank you Lintin, I loved the videos! Oh cute bunnies!
