I tried typing this in last night and my PC froze (no, it’s not fixed yet…argh) so I’ll try to paraphrase what I can recall of my post.

It’s been months now, and Pip is still making very skunky stinks as it pleases her to do so. She’d almost stopped peeing inside her night habitat (something Mimzy is STILL doing despite two weeks straight of Baytril, so it’s not a UTI for him) but I now find either her bedding or her hay has been weed on every other day or so. I’ve even tried changing, limiting or eliminating laundry soaps in case that might be the problem. We’ve also tried a few different hays. No luck.

She skunked me in particular last evening when, while she was in the xpen by herself, I came in to do a little grooming. Not only was she singularly uncooperative (she usually enjoys a good groom and will furiously wash whatever is in front of her while being combed) but she also kept giving off these skunky smells as she’d zoom by me. I still managed to get her groomed, but haven’t checked her scent glands yet. I also need to trim her nails. I really don’t know how she got a purchase on the floor last night with how long they are. But she’s not having any of me grabbing her feet right now.

The last few days were so pungent, I was certain that it was Jenna (Yorkie) peeing on my bed. (She’s been treated for some random infection herself this last week, but that has passed and I still smell something ‘off’ in the room). I’ve cleaned everything, but the only time I didn’t have a bad smell in my room was when Pip was out in the xpen last night, and only when I wasn’t in there with her did I not smell skunk.

I have found in the past that cleaning Pip’s anal glands only keeps her personally from smelling bad, but doesn’t seem to affect this ‘shooting stink’ she gives off. And between she and Mimzy and their ‘war o’ water’ they seem to be engaged in lately, I don’t know if they are marking territory against each other, marking territory because they want to be back together, or if Pip is just ill in general. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear she wasnt’ spayed at all with how bad it is getting…she is acting more like an intact female. There’s been some chraging and aggressive honking at me as well. Can a normally friendly bunny become suddenly obnoxious like this for no other reason than she’s just getting on in years? I mean, I’ve had every other pet in this house to the vet more than once this year (it’s been a rough seven months)…although I think she did go in for a checkup with Mimz one of those times and the vet didn’t find anything wrong with her except that she is a bit heavy. And yesterday morning she did one of those machine gun sneezes that Mimzy used to do. (Oh great.) Usually I’d say Pip is the most socail of my bunnies, and while she was out in the xpen, she was happily periscoping and checking things out, chewing on her grass mats, pooping all over (no peeing) and thumping whenever the hubby walked in because she doesn’t like him. But when she gets back in her night pen, all the nastiness begins again. She was a bit calmer last night right after her outing, so I’m thinking she may no longer want to live in the bunny room with the other two and me and the dog. (Can’t really blame her for that, but I wanted to bond her to both Mimz and Fiver.)

What’d I do to make her so cranky with me?Could it just be me she wants to bugger off? Or is it something else? Anyone have any ideas?

Could she be reacting to the attention Mimzy and Fiver are getting?

When Eddie was sick the last time, Lolli freaking DROVE ME TO THE BRINK OF INSANITY. She was bouncing off the walls, into everything, chewing on everything, just being a pain in the butt. I was too focused on Eddie to really think about it. I just knew it was odd behavior for her since she was never like that before. A few days later, I realized she was bouncing off the walls cause 1) Eddie was sick and 2) I was giving him my sole attention.

So that’s why I’m wondering if Pip is sensing something going on with the other two or any of the other animals and she’s grumpy with you because all the other pets are getting more attention. ????? Just my 2 cents. lol

This may be totally unrelated, but…

Every so often, when we’ve been playing with Remy for a long time and he’s been zooming and binkying and being a goof, the room fills up with what we just call “bunny smell.” It’s a sort of skunky scent, and it’s very recognizable. Usually he smells it up when he’s ready to finish playing and relax.

We think it may be a sort of… release of excitement? It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s almost always after he plays with Stan. He binkies for Stan higher and more joyfully than for anyone else, even me.

We joke that I’m the petting parent and Stan’s the playing parent. When I try to play with Remy he usually just hunkers down for pets and scratches, but Stan can get him to do mid-air 180s just walking in the room and saying “Hello Remy!” The “bunny smell” fills the room after the biggest and best acrobatics. We always laugh about it because it’s like he’s SO EXCITED HE’S GONNA SMELL UP THE ROOM.

Smudge does stinky stuff sometimes too. Especially if she’s being picked up. Her glands are clean, no tummy problems, she just lets me know she is displeased with skunkiness. I think it’s normal

I just don’t understand why she’s doing it all of a sudden…like in the last few months? Shouldn’t she have been doing this her whole life if it’s a way to tell me she’s upset about something?
Normal or not…PHEW! >_< My eyeballs are peeling every time she does it. I just want to be sure it’s not due to illness.

I noticed Mimzy wasn’t making as many territorial poos in his hab while she was out (since they can’t be in the same xpen) but boy last night she was smelly again and he REALLY soaked his floor/Carefresh. I guess the only way I’ll know if they want to be back together is to try and bond them. ~_~

Of course, I was up rather late (till almost 4 AM) because my older cat was either throwing up on the carpet or trying to get in my room to get the bunnies’ hay to eat to throw up some more, maybe it’s her scent that’s setting Pip off?

hmmm…strange. I’ve never dealt with any post-speuter spraying. But I will offer some (((((De-Stinking Vibes))))))

                    lol LPT.

MM, I’ve said that exact same thing about Jersey! Maybe our girls are becoming grumpy old women.

Is the stink that scent gland smell? Jersey did this for the 1st time just months ago and it’s a reaction to TimTim and Jelly. I suppose their smells she’s picking up on. The tail goes way up and on comes the smell. I’ve also seen (an smelt) it from TimTim when Jerseys on the other side of the door. Both of them, one each side – pooey!
I’m not really sure what the reasoning for it is. With Jersey, she seemed to be in territorial-protective-aggressive-fear mode if that makes sense. She never emitted this smell when I brought Rumball home. Just those smelly territorial droppings which she still does too.

I *think* they do still have seasonal fluctuations in their hormones even when fixed.

When you went to groom her in the xpen, had you been holding Mimz or Fiver before or any of other pets? Could it be in reaction to Jenna?

Well, first of all…thanks for the de-funkifying vibes, LPT…lol.

Jerz, I’ve had Jenna living in the same room with me and the bunnies for over a year. Doesn’t make sense that Pip would suddenly be complaining about her now. Yes, it does smell like the glands…yes the tail goes up first (which worries me that she’s peeing also), and no, I hadn’t just touched Mimzy or Fiver. So I’m stumped.

Could it be that she knows I’m trying to bond Fiver and Mimzy? I know she doesn’t seem to care for Fiver, but she’s never been aggressive towards him, except that one time WAAY back when I first brought him home and his pen was next to where she and Mimz were lounging. She saw Mimz try to go over and sniff him and she came tearing out of her hidey spot to grunt at him. But that was almost 4 years ago…and any time she’s been on the bed next to his night habitat, she’s summarily ignored him.

*sigh* I dunno. Maybe she and Jersey have been PM’ing each other. Better keep a good eye on both of them I guess. ~_~

                        It’s not gas, right?
I mean, it could be an S.B.D. (silent but deadly) if she’s eaten kale or other broccoli family foods. Sammy cut one the other night after a full kale dinner, but sbd.

No I’ve been feeding her just her hay. I really can’t give her anythign else because it causes cecal problems. This is in direct reaction to me interacting with her.
I think she hates me now.
Mimzy’s peeing is growing to epic proportions too. I am thinking of not putting carefresh in his pen at night because then he just doesn’t bother with the litterbox after a certain point. His floor is soaked by morning. I don’t know what to do anymore.
