Has anyone else had a rabbit that just didn’t seem interested in toys?  Olive, my twelve week old holland lop, doesn’t seem to play much with any of the numerous toys I’ve given her–willow baskets, grass straw mat, cardboard tubes with hay stuff in them, egg cartons, cardboard boxes.  The cardboard box seems to get the most wear and tear (she likes to “rearrange” it aka tearing up the insides) but other than that, even when she’s free range and I have her toys out for her, she just doesn’t seem all that excited.  Perhaps I have simply not found the right toy for her.  She does occasionally like to dig/chew on an old towel I sacrificed for her purposes, but I suppose things could be worse… she could be going after my possessions…

Yes, my bunnies have very limited interest in toys. I have spent a small fortune over the years trying out different kinds. Bunnies do play, but they often ignore toys. It’s just their nature to take it or leave it, or play for a few seconds, or lose interest, or ignore for months then discover a toy that’s been there all along. They just like to play at instinctive things that they would be doing, like digging, chewing, climbing, running or hiding. Some like to make tunnels in a blanket that’s lying around. They do like to start a project and finish it. Some like to redecorate which looks like a mess to us but is fun for them.

Stick with the natural, homemade and inexpensive toys. It may never be more interesting, but it’s not so unusual.
But do watch for any other signs, like lethargy, loss of appetite or not going in the litter pan. Then it’s an indication of illness and needs a trip to the vet.

I think she simply likes to make up her own games (binkies, Rabbit 500s, etc) and has little use for toys, which is why I’ve mostly stuck to things I can make myself from safe home made materials.  She is eating and going in her litter pan just fine.

I have noticed that when they are babies, they aren’t as interested in toys. As they get older, and less bouncy it seems, thats when the toy interest grows.

Squirrel gets excited at the littlest things, sends him off to BounceFest 2011. lol. But toys… meh. Monkey was the same when she was a baby. Now, Monkey likes to toss her bunny rattle, play with her paper bag, toss her willow rings and willow balls…. It might just take time
