So my husband has been working on the hutch again. He has actually made a lot of progress. The trim is on, the ramp is made, the legs are attached. He is in the process of making the front doors right now. We got some storage shelves that he disassembled with bolt cutters and the panels will be framed out in wood. So all that is left is the front doors, the hide box, the hay holder, the ramp leading down to the floor, and the finish. I am hoping that we will have it finished before we go on our trip, but I’m not so sure.
Here is a pic. Note that the lid will have hinges on it and can be propped up for additional ventilation. My husband said something about making a locking mechanism so it can’t move from its propped position. I put a rabbit-sized stuffed doggie in there for size comparison. We have decided to put the hidey house and hay holder on the top right so the buns won’t be able to go flying from the second floor if the door is open on that side (the ramp down to the floor will be from the bottom floor on the right side).

Yes, it is going to be elaborate and will have cost a fortune by the time it is all said and done. But my silly husband insisted that it look like a piece of furniture. It also isn’t huge because otherwise it wouldn’t fit through the door. But they will only be in it at night anyway, so I think it is okay.
