Right so I got an 8 week old lionhead 2 weeks ago. At the time I just brought a storage crate which I fill with all her hay, pellets and have her water bottle in. Its fine for her right now as she isn`t very big and has free roam of all downstairs. However lately she has been crafty and managed to get past an obstable we put to shut out the stairs so I always find her upstairs and found pee and poop where it shouldn`t be (as shes litter trained downstairs) So I have been looking at dog crates to put her in at night when she can`t be supervised and hoping these will be roomy enough for 6-8hours? I am looking at a couple on amazon

        Any ideas?

The minimum recommended size for any bunny cage is 2’x4′ and both of those cages seem much too small. Many of the members here prefer puppy play pens (we call them xpens) which are typically 4’x4′ and give even more space. A dog crate is also a good idea, though you’d need to get one for a large or extra large dog.

Rather than a dog crate, many of us have invested (with great success) in an exercise pen ie an X-Pen. It should be at least 36″ high because a good bunny jumper can get over the top of the lower ones. You can buy a plastic cover for some of them, or if you want it covered you can also clip a sheet to the sides. But they come with a door that swings open for easy access to clean. They flatten or can be shaped in a square, rectangle or octagon so you can fit it to a space in your home, and you use whatever you prefer for flooring. I have a low pile area rug covered with fabric for a floor, and her mattes, dishes and pan are on top of that.
The crate is hard to get in and out of for you, but the xpen is an initial investment that is comparable to a good larger cage, or even cheaper, and works well. The are sold at all major pet stores and often go on sale if you watch for one. I caught mine at a good local sale one summer.

I deleted your other thread in the Habitat forum. Please avoid cross-posting the same threads in different areas. I will go ahead and move this thread over to the Habitat section later today since this one has replies and the other did not.

You will want the largest one available. The one you just posted is only 36 inches in length. Beka’s is more appropriate at 48 inches. Amazon is a great place to look, but do you have any big chain pet stores? The ones in the US (Petco and Petsmart) do not carry appropriately sized “small animal” cages, but they often have awesome deals on dog crates! Especially when you look online. Both of those particular pet stores offer free shipping on them as well so you aren’t paying nearly double just to ship.
