Well, knew it had to happen sometime.  This morning Olive has discovered the joys of pruning my carpet.  Unfortunately it’s not just in one spot (where I can block it or put something down for her to ignore and go off and find another spot), and if I shoo her away from one spot, she goes on to the next (usually under the couch–the little stinker). Luckily I have an easily-moveable futon so it wasn’t a problem to get her out from under the futon (I know, I know, bunny proof NOW).

Now *there*’s the bad bunny behavior I remember so vividly from my Flipflop (though she preferred baseboards as her main delicacy–well, no, on second thought, that little lady thought the whole apartment was her special du jour).

Finally I had to  pick up Olive and put her back in her X pen (not the least bit fun as she’s in the 99.9% of rabbits who will tolerate picking up on her terms, but not when she’s having naughty fun).  And unlike an older rabbit, I can’t lure her into her X pen with goodies (I hear you can’t give rabbits fresh foods until they’re at least six months old).   It was really only by luck and persistence that I caught her any way–she’s not what I would call a snuggle bunny (how many of them really are?)  Besides, I’m not one for handling rabbits anymore than necessary–I really don’t think the majority of them care for it, and as long as I can get grooming and cleaning of the cage done, I’ve really never required my bunnies to snuggle with me.  I mostly like to sit and observe them (destroy my house–ha ha).

Luckily the damage is not noticeable at all, but now I hesitate to let her free range. At the same time, I want to give her exercise, and she really does like to binky and bunny 500 around the place. Perhaps shorter sessions.

Ah yes, the joys of bunny parenthood.  My Olive is growing up, the sweet little terror .

          Hi

As for the carpet chewing, I’ve had my share of that. There is JUST SOMETHING that makes them want to chew (They are rabbits, after all lol!). What I use is… really smelly perfume on the carpet (thanks grandma!). I have put perfume on areas that my bunny wants to chew, as well as baseboards. Now, she doesn’t chew on anything except her toys (and occasionally my clothing).

I’ve given my bunny a blanket and a towel to bunch up and play with.

A majority of rabbits don’t like cuddles, as they are prey animals. My bunny surely doesn’t, she is too cute for her own good :p She gets picked up when it is time for me to give her a pawdicure and grooms. Bunnies like all their paws on the ground

As for grooming, I have a towel in my bathroom and grooming supplies. I pick bunny up, put the towel on my lap and groom away. You could also put the towel on a bathroom counter (make sure there is some room) and groom away. That is what I do

Oh yes, lol. I’ve raised my bunny from the time she was 7 weeks old. She has grown into a very beautiful bunny

              Hi:

Bunny likes to nibble on my clothing as well, but no holes (yet).  Luckily the carpet chewing isn’t totally destructive (as in bare patches) but I wouldn’t leave her to her own devices quite yet, either.  She has a blanket to bunch up and do as she pleases, but funnily enough, that’s not what she wants to chew on.

I don’t expect my bunny to cuddle with me.  She’s really very independent, as was my other bunny, and I don’t like to force her to do something she doesn’t like or want to do (usually backfires with a rabbit any way).  I mostly watch her, talk to her, and make sure my house doesn’t look like a tornado hit it while she’s out and about.

I also tend to use a towel whenever I groom my rabbits/clip nails.  I find it’s virtually impossible to do it any other way, and I really don’t like to flip them on their backs as I’m afraid they’ll struggle, kick, and break their backs.

Right now she’s flattened out, pancake style, in her little cardboard “house”.  She looks like a long, flop-eared puppy dog.  Too stinkin’ cute.

              Jamie

The carpet chewing in only certain spots I had with my Powder… I found out there were pieces of carpet that were a bit stiffer than others and he loved them. So I cut cardboard pieces and followed him around the house and put them down in every spot he started to chew. It ended up being about 5 spots and once covered, he left them alone. My girl loves corners, so put something down in every corner and she mostly leaves the carpet alone.

As for fresh foods… you can start introducing buns to vegetables at 12 weeks according to House Rabbit Society. Just do it very slowly and keep portions small until she’s older. Introduce one at a time with a little piece, make sure it doesn’t upset the tummy before you give more.

Me and mine get along great, and so far he likes affection, and likes to show me his affection alot too. I usually lay down with him for a while so he can ‘groom’ me. I notice too that he will sometimes put his nose under my hand as to say, pet my head. He is young still, so maybe that will all change, hopefully not though.

In regards to chewing, thats my que to put him back in the cage. I scold him and make a loud noise like a clap or snap to let him know thats not good, but if he goes back at it when its ‘safe’ lol, i just scoop him up and away he goes. I don’t think he minds though, he goes right for his food usually. Sometimes I think hes saying ‘I’m hungry!’ but I know its just his rabbit instincts kicking in.
