        Hello,

my bunny Mika (15 month) has arthrosis. He hasn´t build up enough cartilage. You can see little damages in his spinal column and his hip, too. Besides he has sometimes difficulties to clean up his hindlegs( that´s the reason why we went to the vet). I try to built up the cartilage. In the moment  we use homeopathy (f.i. green lipped mussels).

Do you have any other advices for us?

        Thanks a lot.

        Kleo

I’m not familiar with arthrosis and had to look this up. Poor Mika, sounds very painful.

If you are going the homepathic route, how about acupuncture? I have used it for my arthritic bunny which I know is completely different from arthrosis, but if your vet does acupuncture it may be worth asking about if it would help with pain relief.

I have no advice to give as I’m totally unfamiliar with what your bunny has but you’ll be getting lots of prayers that you and your vet find ways of giving him comfort and a good life, I’m sure you already give him a good life. Prayers and healthy bunny vibes to you…

I’m not sure about this condition either. Is it similar to arthritis?

I think chondroitin supplement can also help with cartilage so starting him on this might be an idea. Also see if the vet thinks more calcium would benefit him. Usually calcium needs to be watched in the rabbits diet but some rabbits can become deficient and not absorb the calcium they need properly.

Have you seen the website Medirabbit? You might be able to find some information there. It is written in multiple languages. http://www.medirabbit.com/

You wrote elsewhere that Mika suffered livercoczidiose. I know of hepatic coccidiosis, would this be what he had? Poor Mika has been through a lot in his young age but he appears a strong and beautiful looking rabbit. I hope you can help him with this.

thank your for your answers and good wishes. Mika will need them.

Yes, I meant hepatic coccidiosis (in german we say liver ). I overtake him in age of 6 month and he had underweight, water (Aszites) and the hepatic coccidiosis which you can only see on his blood. His sister dies on EC. He got a lot of medicine and the first three weeks I thougt he will die. But Mika always eats and he was very agil. Then I notice that his eyes have no reflexes – he just see one distance – I hope you understand what I mean. We discover a damage (hole) in the ear and my vet said he has a damage in the brain as a result of EC and/ or meningitis. Now he have to fight against the arthrosis.

I think chondroitin supplement could be successful. He gets calcium, too. And my vet wants to make acupuncture but Mika doesn´t sit still. It was impossible. Now I start to train with him. Mika´s story is very long, difficult and sad but he is a very pleasant and agil bunny. He always runs, jumps – binks. We know he doesn´t become old but we fight for him. And that´s the reason why I´m here. I´m looking for all the information I can get. Thanks for your help.

Mika’s lucky he has such a caring human to take care of him. Maybe as he ages he might be more calm for acupuncture. Healing vibes from me as well.

We say liver too. It’s makes more sense.  Hepatic is the medical term I think.

With chonodroitin, there are supplements for animals (Cosequin) but rabbits can have the human supplement too(Cosamin). It’s cheaper and easy to get. But I don’t know of any brands to recommend in Germany.   These supplements are  Glucosamine Chondroitin Sulfate (I think I’ve found a translation: Glukosamin- + Chondroitinsulfat  ? )
