Okay, so Dutchess and I are FINALLY entered into agility training at the lowest level! I have a vest harness for her which is the link below but in neon green (so cute!). I put it on her for about 30 seconds tonight and when she tried to pull it off I petted her so she would stop and then I took it off. She didn’t get overly upset with it or anything she was more like, what the freak is this thing?? So I was wondering how much prep work I should do trying to fit and use the harness on her before our class begins two weeks from now. I’m afraid that she’ll spend the whole hour just taking off the harness and not actually learn anything, she’s awfully stubborn. Any agility teacher or students out there with suggestions?

If you really want her to get used to it, just do many short sessions with her in the harness until she gets used to it. It’s a good sign that she’s not freaking out and if she’s just annoyed at it, she should get better. Make sure she’s very comfortable with it before going to a class because you don’t want her to freak out when you get there because shes’ in a new place and doesn’t like the harness.

She won’t be in a new place, we go to hoppy hour in that space about every other week, but the reason she’s there will be different. I’ve started her on her harness, a few times a day about a minute each time. She’s not too happy about it and doesn’t understand it, and still tries to get it off, but I’ve been able to catch her and take it off so she doesn’t get it into her mind that she can take it off. At least she’s isn’t overly freaked on it, just sits there or scampers like, “how do i get this off?”.

I have no way of video taping but I might be able to take a few pics. I’m not very high tech and I won’t have anyone to go with me to take the pics so we’ll see!
