  A little while ago, I discovered that my TV seemed to be stuck on mute, even though the volume was on max. I wasn’t sure what caused it, so I figured that my TV was just broken and forgot about it.
  
  A little while later, I discovered that my father forgot to put back the carriers that I have blocking off the TV cord when he vacuumed. After inspecting the TV cord, I discovered that the uncovered portion was chewed through, and some of the metal wire had been torn out.
  
  I’m pretty sure that Ms. Rabbit did it, since Mr. Bunny was too big to fit in there. I did notice that she seemed a little spooked and anti-social when I was trying to pet her, but she doesn’t seem to have any visible injuries, and she was eating her salad fine earlier today.
  
  Could this have any bad effects on her? She chewed through a lamp cord once before, and she seemed fine then. Does electricity even go through TV cables?

  Was it the power cord or the cable cord?

  if she starts getting pay-per-view,, then i would take her into the vet immediately,,
  otherwise buns chew cords all the time… theyre not going to ingest the metal,, they just like the chewey outside.

  It really depends on what the cord was for. There would be a different amount of signals (usually correlated with the size of the cord) and for some, a potential to get zapped regardless if the tv was on or off if the metal was touched. Most likely though, it’s minimal.

  Theres a fix to the tv being broken! lol she’s even got anttenas pre-installed!

  My twe escaped their room thanks to me being stupid and ate through ALL my tv cords as well as the dvd cords and the wii cords and the power cords….. so far outside of the odd radio reception I can pick up from bugz when I am giving him cuddles they have survived! One of the reasons I turn the power off at the fuse box when i am not home!

  Cable cord isn’t going to hurt her (though make sure she eats her hay in case she swallowed any of the casing) – you can repair the cord too if you want by cutting further up on both ends, twisting the metal wires together and then electric taping it so the connection stays tight. Coax cable isn’t that hard to get though.

  One time I was sitting with Porky snuggled next to me while watching a video on my laptop. I was using headphone, so I wouldn’t wake my son. All of a sudden the sound went dead. I spent a good five minutes reloading the video and checking settings before I figured out that the cord no longer went from the headphones to the laptop. Porky was fine though. he was also fine after the time he got past the “bunny proofing” that we put around the cords of my desk top computer.
  
  I think with power cords, it really is one of those things, where it is all or nothing. Bunny either gets zapped when he bites through the cord and it is a sad end for the bunny, or bunny gets lucky and doesn’t get zapped and it is all just fine and dandy (well, except for expensive cord replacing.)

  Again, it really depends on what the cord is for/what it is connected to. Capicitors keep charge even when things on in the off position and can then zap you without killing; it’s definitely not all or nothing. I’ve been zapped before for working on circuits and wires on things that were “off” and unplugged .

  One of my bunnies is a champion chewer, and can get through even two layers of cord protectors, and in the past managed to squeeze through small openings to reach cords that we thought were safe. She has gotten lamps, a phone, floor fans, a vcr and the cord to our main tv, which cost us $100 to replace. We threw away one fan and phone, and repaired the others. Now, we keep things unplugged or securely blocked off, since the cord wraps don’t work in her case. She was never injured which I’m so grateful for. I can’t believe that she wasn’t hurt by chewing through the cord on our 36″ tv. I had no idea that she was able to get back behind it–until one day when the tv didn’t work. Fortunately, as she has gotten older, she has lost her passion for chewing and also is content to stay in one part of the house instead of roaming all over.

  My bunny Ashley somehow pulled my headphones threw her hutch and chewed them into thousands of tiny pieces she didn’t ingest anything and she was fine nothing to worry about but if your rabbit stops eating, drinking or pooping take it to the vet immediately
