I got a lionhead bunny the other week and shes now 9 weeks. She lives as a house bunny and has free reign all downstairs. She has a cage with all her hay/water/pellets in, a litter box (which was so easy to train), some toys and a cardboard house. She seems very happy and I manage to groom her everyday, she is quite lazy though and chills an awful lot with a few binkys a day. What I basically wanted to ask was do I need to take her to the vet to get her checked? Ive also been looking up worming pastes and all sorts, worrying myself too. Also I let her run around the garden and she ate some grass (we have no other pets) and now Im worried because I read she shouldn`t be eating that till shes 12 weeks! Lots of advice would be fantastic and advice on the vets as sure theres nothing wrong with her, but worrying myself now!

She is too young to be spayed yet, but you can take her to the vet for a wellness check. Make sure she doesn’t have any parasites or other problems. Do you know of any rabbit vets? You want to look in the phone book under exotic vets. That is what mine is listed as and they are pretty good.

Some grass and veggies prior to 12 weeks is okay, as long as she can tolerate it. I wouldn’t introduce a bunch of variety just yet, but a little bit is okay. It is a very good idea to take her to the vet for a complete wellness exam and have a baseline health record started for her. At this time, you can also get the vet’s suggestion on the best time to spay her (AND, the vet will tell you if she is a girl or boy.) Since she’s an only bunny, it isn’t very urgent, but I would try to have her seen by about 12 weeks. This gives you time to locate experienced vets in your area.
