Maddies urine scald is getting better but its still there and her butt still gets wet sometimes (when she pees outside of the litter pan). Im thinking of getting a sheet of corplast and making a tray and filling it with litter (like c&c cages for guinea pigs) It would be about 18 square feet and then they will have separate litter pans. I set up the pen area so Minnie can get out by jumping on a side table so she can get out but Maddie cant so she will have more space to run around. Would this be ok? Also would having a huge litter pan un litter train Minnie? Like would she pee in the regular litter pans or the huge one. And if she does pee in the huge litter pan once I take it out would she start peeing on the floor where it was or use the regular litter pans.

It sounds like a decent size. So it’s sort of like a little bigger then 4×4 feet?

My thought on using coroplast and litter is that Minnie might lose footing when jumping in and out. Plus, as you have thought, it may cause her to lose litter habits also. What about using a pad of fabric like cotton flannel? You could have several made up and switch them out when one needs washing. That might feel different enough from the litter and hopefully keep Minnie on track. Should also be absorbant enough for Maddies accidents. You’d probably need to use a rubber underlay like what is used for carpet mats.

I decided against the huge litter pan. I layed down the blanket and put a layer of towels on top and that seems to be keeping her butt dry (I dont know why they didnt work separately). I change out the towels whenever I see pee on them.
Im just so happy I have this under control now. Her butt looks much better. Her skin is no longer red, there are no more scabs and for the most part its healed. And since im using towels and blankets I can make the pen bigger. Its not much bigger (maybe 22 square feet) but still bigger.

And an update. Her leg seems to be getting a little better. Still not working as well as her other leg though. Her butts is better. She got an eye infection but after some antibitoics it has gone away so shes overall doing pretty good now.

              Good to hear she’s improving.
