For the last few days, I’ve noticed that Oreo is farting a lot. Since it started happening, I’ve taken her back to two veggies she has tolerated well from the beginning, cilantro and dandelion greens. I had originally thought it was the parsley or bok choy which she hasn’t had in a while though she’s had it in the past and tolerated them well. But there’s been no change since removing those. She is still active, eating, pooping and playing normally. It’s just that I hear her farting either right before bed or first thing in the morning every day. I am giving her simethicone to help.

Of course, we did just move last week and she is going through a very heavy molt. My only other thought is that the water here tastes a little odd to me, like chlorinated, even after being run through a Brita. Could any of this be causing her gas? Thoughts?

You can try giving her bottled water for a day and see if it stops. I would also use an even milder green, like green leaf lettuce, instead.
Is she getting her hay? No treats? Because it can be the greens, but if it’s something worse, she may need to see a vet.
It can be exacerbated by the stress of the move and the molt, so brush her a lot and watch to see she isn’t eating something new she found in the house.

That’s a lot going on all at once, so it could be anything at this point. Rabbits can be sensitive to changes in water, this might cause them to stop drinking altogether which could result in dehydration. Also be aware that if you’re washing veggies in the tap water, that will be retaining some of that flavor as well. It’s a good idea (when moving to a new city/region) to stock up on some of the original tap water and slowly transition, but at this point it’s too late.

Keep watching her and see how she does. Now would also be a good time to locate a new rabbit vet if your old one is outside of reasonable driving distance.

She is eating her hay normally and pooping normally. She had been getting one treat a day like she always has (nothing new, same Oxbow treats I’ve had for a while) but I will stop for a while to see if it helps. I’ll pick up some bottled water and some romaine today and see if that helps as well. The most confusing part of all of this is that she would seem completely normal if I wasn’t hearing it. She plays every night like always, even did a few binkies last night. But when I put her back in her condo for bedtime and she will rest (no nose wiggling but also no painful teeth grinding) and I will hear her fart.

We do have a well bunny appointment with our new vet on August 4th. I’m just worried if I shouldn’t even wait that long.

I don’t know what it would sound like. Are you sure it isn’t tummy noises, snoring, a nose whistle?

You could try a probiotic if she is gassy. Acidophilis isn’t natural to their guts but I’ve read it can be given and seems to be beneficial. You can just use the chewable tablets that we can eat. Or there’s that bene-bac gel.

                  How is she today?
I did have a passing thought that it may be something else making the noise that just sounds like a fart. Might be something else. Is her tail up?
(Jersey, there’s a video on YouTube of a rabbit farting. I can try to find it for you.)

It’s possible that it’s something else but it sounds a lot like when she would fart when she had stasis a few months ago.

The good thing is I switched her to romaine washed in bottled water and bottled water to drink and no gas last night! I think I am going to slowly add her fave veggies back in (she’s not a huge fan of romaine) but keep the bottled water and see how that goes

That sounds promising. If you know that the bottled water has helped, you might want to keep it in the house for the whole family. A new town brings new, unexpected conditions and it might be a good idea. In that case, you can stock up on cheap large quantities or try a filter on the sink faucet.

Did Oreo have some recent dental issues? I’m trying to find the posts on this and wondered if it was Oreo. Many times dental issues cause numerous problems for rabbits including gas, which is usually secondary to other issues.

She did have a molar trim back in March/April and was due for a follow up in August (thus our appointment with the new vet). But nothing since then
