› FORUM › DIET & CARE › brand of timothy pellets you feed to buns?
Hey all! I wanted to know what brand of timothy pellets you feed your buns. I currently use one that’s kind of expensive (forgot the name) but want to get a cheaper brand if possible. Thanks!
I use Oxbow. ![]()
Oxbow as well. I prefer paying for good quality, wouldn’t want to go cheaper. ![]()
Oxbow too, but Im kind of lucky the store I shop at is pretty inexpensive, compared to most mainstream stores theyre at least 20% cheaper if not more
Oxbow. Plus they have punch cards where I buy it. Buy 6 bags, get the 7th free.
I use Oxbow or American Pet Diner. Pellets really are the cheapest part of a rabbit’s diet so even the high quality really aren’t that expensive. Pellets are also the smallest part of a rabbit’s diet.
I use American Pet Diner.
I use oxbow. I agree, high quality food is one of the best things you can do for your animals.
I’ve been using Bonanza, but my rabbit’s vet told me that’s okay when they’re still growing but now that’s he’s 7 months I’ve got to switch to other pellets. Like Sarita says, the pellets are the smallest part (about 1/4 cup per 5 lbs) so if you spring for the expensive stuff it’ll last ya!
Oxbow here too. It’s pretty much the standard.
I use Oxbow and right now I also have some pellets from Sweet Meadow Farms.
Currently on a timothy based kaytee brand. I am considering switching to APD later.
Oxbow here as well. I work for a pet store and get 20% off on it and if it’s going to expire soon I get an extra few bucks off so it’s pretty inexpensive for me.
Oxbow here wouldn’t use anything else!
Oxbow as well!
I’ll be the black sheep here and say I feed my bunnies ZuPreem Nature’s Promise. It doesn’t have any little treats or seeds in it and is higher in fiber than all the other timothy pellets at my local store. But maybe I’ll look into ordering Oxbow now that I see I’m the only one…

Same here. It’s great getting a bag free once in a while. My pet store offers these cards for any type of pet food. I wish they did it for hay as well.

I feed the Zupreem too, I really like it. I’ve done Oxbow in the past, as well as the new Carefresh pellets. I tend to switch around, which works for Riley but maybe wouldn’t work for most buns. I really like Zupreem as a brand, and it is available at several of the large chain pet stores, which has been easier for me because I’ve moved around.
I feed Oxbow hay and have nothing against that company either! Since pellets are such a small part of their diet, I find that it doesn’t cost me much at all (Riley only eats 1/8 cup a day, so a 5# bag of pellets lasts me basically forever!).

They have hay punch cards too! Buy 6 bags, get the 7th free! Both the pellet and the hay punch cards are specific for Oxbow. I think they come from the manufacturer. The store probably has some sort of contract with them, I’m not sure.
my sweet boy was on Purina but we are in the process of switching over to Oxbow. I can get a 5lb bag for about $10, a rabbit rescue near me is the only place I can get his food for now unless I order it online.
I also use Oxbow.
I also feed Oxbow and a 10 lb bag lasts quite awhile- even with 3 bunnies. Cotton gets 1 Tablespoon a day and the boys- Griff and Schroeder are penned together- they get 1/4 cup to share a day. That is it. I use the pellets to “fill in” any nutritional gaps that they may not get from their veggies or get from their veggies that particular week. Plus I do not use a bowl- I scatter them in the pen- so they have to forage for them and that is more mentally stimulating.
LBJ10 – Thanks. I’m going to ask the store manager about it. That would help me out a lot.
LPT – No problem. Hopefully they can get the punch cards there. Like I said, it appears the store I get Oxbow from is a member of some program that Oxbow has or something.
Hi. I noticed you have a lionhead. Do you shave your bunnies face? It looks like it. I have one also. I just recently snipped the hair on her forehead because she was always hanging her head down due to the fact that she could not see well.
My comment about shaving a lionhead’s face was directed to leaveittoweaver.
Ditto on the Oxbow!
We won’t use anything but Beaphar Care+ now. He ADORES the stuff, and it’s a combined pellet so no nitpicking. Also, it smells like Paprika! Hah. <3
This is VERY late but I’m in the process of switching the food to oxbow from he food I got from the “breeder” that I got my bun from. Oh wait. It says Timothy pellets. My bun’s still on Young bun food;;
