Hi all. I hate it when people ask “should I get a male or a female rabbit,” but here I am asking for advice regarding the sex of a third rabbit. I know each rabbit is different, but I wanted to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation.

        Here is my situatuion:

Lemmy bee my 2 year old 10+ lb lop mix doe (spayed) and Maxamillion my 1.5 year old 5 lb mini rex buck (neutered) have been bonded for about a year now. They get along fine, but they are definately not “inseperable”–Lemmy shows Max way more affection that he shows towards her.

Also, Max still constantly humps Lemmy’s face, despite any amount of water bottle spraying. Lemmy is such a sweet, patient bun and she puts up with it until we can get over to gently remove Max. I would like to get a 3rd rabbit, a Flemmie, and I am wondering if I should get a male or female, or if it really doesn’t matter.

        Any advice?

        Thank you

My first instinct would be a male, and keep them separated until he’s neutered. Two females can be very territorial, especially over a third bunny.

But first, are you willing to keep the third bunny separated forever if they do not bond? There is never any guarantee that a trio will work out. If you don’t have the space/time for the upkeep of separate habitats long-term, I would not get a third.
