Lolli has always growled/grunted when she gets fed.  It’s her “back off” sound.  She used to growl all the time when Eddie was alive and she’d have to push her way to get to the treats/food.  The “pushing” was normal rabbit/animal “lemme have some!” behavior when you are feeding 2 or more pets.  Now she mainly only growls when I give her pellets.  I don’t have any clue why.  She feels the need to let the world know they are HER pellets and to BACK OFF!

Well I bought her some Oxbow veggie treats.  She LOVES her oxbow treats.  And I like them cause I am much able to control the amount she gets rather than the random pinch of oats.  lol  Tonite, I gave her a treat and she growled.   She has NEVER growled when she’s gotten treats except sometimes when Eddie was alive.

Anyone else’s bunnies get all growly about treats?  Just curious.

Maybe it was her “thank you”……………………………………………….DOH! Oh yeah, rabbitude does NOT involve gratitude.  LOL

It sounds to me like she is in the habit of growling around food – and bunnies are creatures of habit.
I think she’s just talking to you at this point, and in case you were thinking of taking a bite out of her treat, she was letting you know that is still not an option.

Sammy never growled over food, but she just, well, growls. Usually accompanied by a little push. Some bunnies vocalize more than others.

Oreo gets growly about treats if she can smell that I have them in my hand/pocket and haven’t given them to her yet. She knows the sound that her treat container makes when I open it and usually if I don’t put the treat down immediately I’ll get growled at and nose bumped until the treat is dropped Such a silly demanding girl

Anyone here have a boy that growls? It’s beginning to sound like a girly thing. I would associate that with protection instincts if that’s true.

Bobby growls. It’s pretty cute. He does it when I pester him, which is quite often.

Sunny growls too when I pester him, but not with food I don’t think. Sometimes when we are playing, I think he lets out some playful growls. The growls sound the same, but it’s the rest of the behavior that’s different between playful and agitated. Do any of yours growl when playing?

Lolli pretty much only growls when she’s annoyed or over food. And she’s really only annoyed when I try to play with her. LOL The girl likes to play on her own. Sigh. LOL

Wooly grunts when I’m grooming him and he has decided he has had enough.

My girl, Felicity, growls at me sometimes… *sigh* she likes to tell me that it is HER corner and I am not allowed there! She also growls sometimes when I try to feed her treats, no idea why since she hasn’t been around other rabbits!
