So here is the deal. Me + big male rabbit= I’m his new mate and he attempts to groom me. Ouch I have scars on my arms now and a spray bottle on hand next to my bed ( yeah, he sleeps on my bed…) but the only rabbit that has caught my eye for him is another male?! It’s a holland lop named Appa he is the roundest little fuzzbal you have ever seen. But they don’t get along. Like at all. I was just wondering if boys COULD be paired sucsessfuly without making my male feel like he has to start swinging for the other team ( not that there is a problem with gay rabbits. That would actually be really cute). I am like 89% sure that Nova and Appa would never work out as a bromance, I will wait for a female to come around. I just wondered it male-male pairs have ever worked.

They can definitely work. I have a pair of girls, and working on a pair of boys

Sure. There are tons of male pairs. But him having a mate doesn’t necessarily guarantee he’ll stop grooming you. Maybe you need to start limiting how much time he has on the bed. Does he have a stuffy toy?

Sorry to go all parent-like on you but has your Dad accepted Nova as a permanent pet yet? I’m concerned getting a second rabbit might be a deal breaker.

ETA: I just read about Nova’s bedtime routine in Bunny Personalities thread so understand you’d be hard pressed to stop allowing him there. Honestly, that sounds so sweet. Timbu is like this, he shadows me when I’m getting ready to go to bed, then he likes to settle near the pillow for one-on-one time with me. I love this but I have started to pen him afterwards because he now begins digging and being a pain in the butt  generally.  Could you try using a stuffy between you and Nova? Use it to groom him and he may start grooming it in returrn.

I just checked your profile and he’s neutered, which usually helps curb his need to be all over you.
If you are in a position to get a mate for him, it can definitely be another male. The humping between bunnies is primarily a gesture of dominance, not sex, unless they are both not fixed and trying to procreate. Otherwise, it’s just establishing who is in charge in the relationship. That’s why you can see a female humping a male and it’s ok between them, but looks weird to us.

That said, bunnies bond with another bunny they think they might like. Sometimes two bunnies will just hate each other on sight, and rarely love each other on sight. Either combination of genders is possible in both situations.
Usually a bunny will show some preference for another bunny, discovered through “dating” where you let your bun meet several possible mates at once, like at a shelter. If they do not start to fight, or if one lets the other groom them, you are off to a potentially good bond and your bunny has said “I think I can tolerate this one” so you can pick that bunny. In other words, female or male, your bunny has a say in the matter. That’s why it’s easier to bond that way than to bring home a stranger you think is cute or sweet and stick your bunny with the new one, with no choice. Your bunny is in HIS home and not initially interested in sharing, even if he picks a mate.

Well Nova ends up getting down to eat at like 4/5 in the morning anyway. And he doesn’t bite every time you pet him most of the time he just sits back and enjoys the lovin. My dad has deffenatly accepted the bunny as a pet! He went grocery shopping and came back with parsley AND complained about the serious lack of romain lettus in that store. He doesn’t pet Nova but that’s probably because the bunny won’t come out of my room but yeah dad has accepted the bunny. I won’t be getting another bun yet though, too much going on at home with the whole devorce and buying furniture for my moms new house and packing and we haven’t even hit court yet! A new bunny is 100% out of the question right now. I just wondered of males could bond nicely. I will probably get a female though, Nova doesn’t like male rabbits much because when I pet them he thinks that the male is flirting with his human mommy/ girlfriend(?!) a female would deffenatly be better.

It sounds like he gets a lot of attention, so it’s not necessary that you do get a second. You can just him as a single bunny and he will do well.

Oh he is deffenatly spoiled! When I put him on my bed and I get under the covers he starts binkying so much that I sometimes have to hold him down so he doesn’t fling himself into something! Such a happy bunny I have <3

one bunny is quite the handful I think Nova is happy to have you as a human.

Well if he isn’t happy then I’m obviously reading body language wrong hehe cause he just flopped with his head upside down and his front feet in the air leaning on my left foot. I’m often too warm for him to lean on anyway he just gets frustrated and snuggles my ankle. Man I wish I had a white bunny so I could get a good video of his night time binky fests, however my fave color also happens to be black ( not why I chose Nova it just happened to be a conicidence!) so my bedspread is also black. He blends in darnit! And I can’t even pull the bedspread back to show my sheets cause guess what, also black -.- I feel so gothic
