First off, Hi, I’m new here  - and a new bun owner too.

We had rabbits growing up, but they lived in hutches outside and got fed mainly pellets and had a wire floor under them.  So I am going to consider myself a brand new rabbit owner!

So a regualr at the place I work had a friend who drove by a moving sale and saw 2 mini lops being given away for free.  They were in a tiny rotting hutch.  She took the buns, and left.  But she couldn’t keep them, no room and she already has 3 rabbits.  So when I overheard the regular talking I stepped in and went and got them.

They are supposedly both right around a year – not related both male and UN-neutered.  They were in the same cage at the womans house when I picked them up and she said they were fine together.

So now my question.  They are going to be neutered shortly.  Until then is it safe to keep them together?  They seem very bonded and snuggle and groom eachother. But everything I’ve read said that 2 unnuetered males can not be kept together  I did see dragonfly mount hoppers- hoppers (my kids named them) and well hoppers didn’t seem to mind at all…..

Thanks – and I’m sure I’ll have a million more questions as I get to know my new little friends!

Thank you for taking them in! It sounds like they’ve had it rough already… If they’re okay together, I would leave them together. It’s possible they “fought out” their relationship early on (between 4 and 8 months when the hormones are at full-swing), and they have since found happy ground. It is more possible for two unneutered males to be kept together than two unspayed females, so fortunately they are boys.

They are, in fact, both boys… right? Have you flipped them over and seen “visual confirmation” that they are males?

Sounds like they are lucky buns.

I see no problem keeping them together if they are indeed both males and there is no fighting. The problem with two unaltered boys is often they will fight and injure each other due to hormones. If that isn’t an issue, I wouldn’t worry about it… just keep an eye out for any aggressive moves from either side. Please check to make sure both are boys though, to avoid pregnancy!

Lol @ being scarred for life!

Yay for you taking them in! Lops are my favorite so I would love to see a million pictures.

I agree with Beka that if they are ok together there’s no harm in letting them stay together. Just make sure they don’t get too humpy or anything after the neuters because this could rip out stitches and things.

Thanks guys.  They are adorable.  I gave them Kale for the first time tonight.  They loved it!  They get very excited for their veggies – it is so cute!

We’ve had them for almost 2 weeks now and they are atarting to open up a little.  They are not used to being handled up at all and getting them in and out of their cage (they will not leave on their own) is a bit well – scratchy.  But they like being patted and are perfectly gentle and sweet with my kids.

I have a bunch of housing questions too – so I am going to ask them in the appropriate forum!

I’m so glad they have a great new home that loves them already. I can’t wait for pictures too.

hmm I tried copying the [img] tags from photo bucket but that didn’t work.  I’m off to bed – but will figure out how to post pics in the morning!
