My mom was watching Good Morning America, and she told me about one of their “pet deals” of the day: http://store.humanesociety.org/prod…ccessories  (The coupon code is GMA)

I’m ordering one, since my two aren’t chewers, and they love laying on cold things- I think this will be easier on Logan’s leg, since he’s supposed to have something soft to lay on.  I figured this might be useful for anyone with non-chewers and no AC this summer Just wanted to share in case anyone is looking for something like this!

I hope it works for you!

Another good idea is to buy a tile made of some sort of stone – it stays cool and is great for laying on.

Bailey looooves the tile I bought them when it started getting hot. She’s either laying there or in front of the fan. However, Logan won’t lay on hard surfaces I think his old broken leg might be the culprit, or maybe he’s just very spoiled. I’m hoping this is soft enough for him- otherwise a fleece cover shouldn’t be too hard to make.

Oh I’m buying that for the dog for sure-that would be perfect camping …maybe two and see what the buns do. They aren’t destroyers anymore however when I got them an awesome tent they basically made that their mission to destroy…

My only worry with this is what if my Link were to pee on it? Wouldn’t it absorb that and smell awful?

Oh shoot… I definitely didn’t think about that, Lis! Logan likes to “mark” anything that’s new and doesn’t smell like him. That might get yucky! I think what I’ll do is make the fleece cover and stick that in his pen so he gets used to it, then I’ll put the mat in, and hope that works for him.

You know what I was thinking about this…

It is a special stuffing that doesn’t dry-so

                    a) if they chew it and ingest any-there could be BIG trouble
b)-what’s stopping you from just giving them a wet towel and wetting it when it dries? It really cools by evaporative cooling so it’s basically a big wet pad that stays wet for a while…so no need to risk when you could just give a wet towel which would be safer

Lis/Bailey: I’m sure there is something you could buy as a cover for the mat to protect it from urine, something very absorbable that would still allow for the coolness to get through.

That was my first thought- that ingesting that stuff could be very, very bad. But Bailey and Logan really aren’t big on destroying things (well, since Bailey’s been spayed, no more destruction )- I just make sure they always have some sort of toy, like a willow ball, and they’re all set. I’m planning on watching them closely, and taking it out if I’ll be away for any length of time. The problem with a wet towel is that neither of my bunnies will lay on wet stuff. If Logan pees on his bed, he won’t use it. If I wash the bed and give it to them while it’s still damp, he won’t use it. Heck, if lettuce juice gets on the mat where their dishes are, they foot flick away and won’t come back until it’s dry. This thing says it stays dry- we’ll see. If it doesn’t work, I’ll see if the animal shelter nearby can use it for their dogs.

Isabelle- I’m going to make a trip to the fabric store and see what I can find. Maybe they have something that’s two layers, something soft and something water-resistant. I was also thinking that puppy pads between the fleece cover and the cooling mat might work, but I’ve never bought those so I’m not sure how that will work.

I was also wondering what they have found to be the result if an animal chews a hole in it. Dogs can be much bigger chewers than bunnies, so I’m sure somewhere on their website they must address that. Of course water evaporates, and they said their crystals are non-toxic, so it would be good to know what they say about that. It’s a good idea in a room where you’re with your bunnies supervised, though, BaileyBun.

I am still a big believer in the big marble tile cooling option. You can buy just one at Home Depot/Loewes etc. that’s about 18″ square with no sticky on the back, set it down on the floor and voila! A portable (and heavy) bunny lounge.

This suggestion from a woman (me) who lives in Florida but whose bunny won’t set foot on the wall to wall tiles in the living room. Good grief. Bunnies are SO fickle.

I looked at the website of the manufacturer, and here’s what I found:
” If accidentally consumed it will pass thru system. The polymer is non-toxic. Does not contain latex.”
Of course, it doesn’t say what, exactly, the material is, so I’m not going to trust that. I’ll just be keeping a close eye on the bunnies

The marble tile I have is perfect for Bailey, but Logan just won’t use it, and he’s the one I get worried about when it’s hot out. Plus, I want to keep him on soft surfaces as much as possible, since my vet said that’s better for his legs.
