My boyfriend, who lives in Texas and has only met Oreo once, has officially converted to bunny lover! Although he was supportive of me wanting a bunny, he wasn’t the most enthusiastic since he’s never had one before. Especially when he found out she has her own bedroom, he was pretty skeptical. So naturally I’ve bombarded him with daily pictures of her ever since she came home with me.  Well today he sent me a text message saying “I just saw to bunnies dead on the side of the road.  Promise me you’ll never let Oreo outside where she can get hurt. I want her to be safe inside where she can play!” For a skeptic and someone who really knows nothing about house bunnies, this feels like a huge victory! He’s coming to visit in 2 days and I think he’s more excited about seeing her than seeing me. He keeps talking about snuggling her and seeing her binky and flop You know what they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Any good stories out of there of husbands/bfs/fathers/brothers, etc falling for bunnies unexpectedly?

How cute! Men try to be tough, but they’re the biggest suckers for cute animals.

DH is obsessed with the rabbits. This picture says it all.

            awwwww, I love that photo.

I was just going to suggest that you dab a bit of banana on your BF’s nose just to make sure Oreo makes a fuss over him 😉

My dad has always loved animals. I had animals growing up, and my dad had no objectives to me getting Chacha bun. I told him that I would like to have a pet companion (this was right after I lost my mom in 2009), and he said yes.

He always baby talks to her in the morning, and NOW, Chacha is FINALLY warming up to my dad. She will run and binky towards him when he wakes up.. she expects her morning pellets She no longer runs away if my dad walks near her

And my boyfriend.. well, she loves him, and he loves her

Oh, and there is a yearly calendar called hot guys and baby animals

                      AGREED.

my dad has always been an animal lover. funny, because he’s this really tall, stoic Asian dude.. but he LOVES the family cat. he feeds her solid white albacore everyday and she comes running when he goes “mumu cookie!” [that’s his word for the crunchy kitty treats.. lol]. when the bunnies were at my parents house he would sit with them alllllll the time.

boyfriend acted like he hated the bunnies but he’s a total sucker for them too. rorschach especially loves him and paul’s actually picked him up twice. the first time he picked him up he came running into my room super excited and covered in white fur

My boyfriend wasn’t thrilled with the bunny idea, but he always brings them home treats and salads and toys and lays on the floor petting them and telling Powder how good a little boy he is in baby voice now lol

Shortly after my parents got married, they moved into an apartment together for the first time. A couple weeks in, my mom asks my dad “can I get a rabbit?” and he replied with “well, I guess so. Go pick out a rabbit today.” He’d had all sorts of pets as a kid (everything from dogs to groudhogs to a descented skunk – the last of which he used to use to pick up girls in college!), so he figured how hard could a rabbit be?

He came home that day, and a brown bunny poked it’s head out from under the couch, then retreats. He puts his stuff down, starts to take off his tie, etc, and a black and white head stuck out from under the couch.
He wasn’t too happy that he’d wound up with two instead of one, but he fell in love hard with Spunky, the brown one. (Spooky was the black and white). Spunky was true to his name – he’d hop up into my dad’s lap and watch Penn State games with him. One famous story in my family was the time my grandfather came to visit and Spunky leapt off of the steps onto his lap. Dad jokes that he can’t decide who was more surprised – Spunky or Grandpa. He loved those two rabbits.

Also, when I met HJ, he wasn’t an animal person at ALL. He was terrified of dogs and never really had interest in other pets. He’d never had pets of his own as a kid due to allergies.  EDIT: I’m misleading. His mom’s the one with allergies.
Cue spring break of 07 – we’re headed to home to my Mom and Dad’s. Mom’s birthday falls over break, and she’s been asking for another rabbit for a while. I decide to surprise her with a bunny. We head to a pet store nearby, and there’s 3 babies, counting Stormy. The fact that I wanted a male ruled out the white baby, and someone was holding the light brown baby, so I picked up Stormers. He immediately tried to snuggle into my chest, and HJ went “That one.”
During our breaks, HJ came over, and got to know Stormy. He slowly realized that rabbits are full of personality – Stormy was a real character. Then last summer, I mentioned I wanted to get a Flemmie and once I had my own place, neuter them and bond them. HJ thought the idea of a rabbit bigger than some dogs was hilarious, and started looking on craigslist and fell in LOVE with the pictures of Link’s litter. So he got Link, figuring that once I had my own place (which would happen in 2 months) Link would move in with me. A week later he told me “Forget that. This is my rabbit now.”

Ha! If my bf could have taken Oreo on the plane with him, he probably would have. He just left this morning and was so upset about leaving her. Although she wouldn’t yet tolerate him snuggling her, he sat on the floor every night and hand fed her bowl of veggies She loved the extra spoiling and attention. If they had more time together, I already know we’d have a full blown daddy’s girl on our hands.

When I got Chacha those new toys from the fair, I took video of her inspecting it. You can hear my boyfriend in the background baby talking to her, gahahahah!

I swear there’s something about bunnies that makes the most manly men turn into things along the lines of “Who’s a big boy? You’re a big boy! I lub you! Look at those ears, they’re so cute! Radar ears! Beep boop beep boop.”

Surprisingly she didn’t sniff him much. When I first got her she was pretty anti-social so everything got sniffed and dug at and tasted. Now she’s more accustomed to humans and prefers to climb and nose bump. So she was climbing all over him…..just no snuggles yet, only I get those

My two best friends here (both guys) don’t even greet me when they come over – they go right to Riler’s cage and let him out, or right to his treat cabinet (yes, he has his own cabinet for his treats) and get him his favorites.

I think my rabbit is more popular than me! Hopefullly I can someday find a boyfriend with the same love for my pets!

I forgot to mention that DH named something at work after Otto! He’s a development engineer and was developing something new and got to name it – it was the first thing he’s gotten to name and he picked Otto. All of our friends are giving him so much crap about it. haha

The best was when he gave a meeting about it and had a cute slide with “Famous Ottos in History”, complete with pictures, with Otto von Bismarck, Otto the Orange (Syracuse mascot), Otto the bus driver (from the Simpsons), and Otto OurLastName (Rabbit). Hahaha. I think only his boss actually got it (his boss loves Otto ever since he bunny-sat while we were on our honeymoon) but most of the people in my department knew exactly what Otto32 and Otto22 was actually named after.
