I feel like a terrible bunny mum It was really hot today, it was 92F. And we don’t have AC. So i put two ice blocks in there. ( jugs filled with water) and they leaked! there was water EVERY WERE!!! after that it got so hot that I put them in their carrier and put them in my grandmas basement and put a dish of water and hay in there for them. I checked on them a lot and i decided to go swimming. I wasn’t swimming for that long when I came in my grandmas house to check on them. They had spilled their water EVERY WERE !!!! I feel horrible. They had to sit in water that whole time! I dried them off as best I could and brought them back to our house but now I feel bad because it is 85F in the house. I feel horrible ATM!

You’re not a bad mum! You did your best to try and keep them cool, and unexpected things happen. That doesn’t make you a bad mum!

Don’t feel bad. My AC was broken and the rabbits spent two whole days in their cage and down in the basement. They couldn’t come out that whole time.

Try some single serve soda bottles filled (not all the way, water expands when frozen) and frozen, then put in a sock. the sock will absorb alot of the condensation, and insulates it so it stays frozen longer. Also try draping cold damp towels over the pen walls, and aiming a fan at it. The air going through the cold damp towel cools the air.

                Thanks guys.
MB: I have been doing that… I should probably wet the towels down again. its been awhile. ( runs to wet towels)

Just opened all the windows when I did the towels because it was warmer inside then out. I hope it cools down soon.

Don’t feel bad – you are an excellent bunny mom who cares so much and this is beyond your control. Do you have a fan you can blow on them?

If you can find a tile, o flat rock, something like that, and put it in the fridge then put it in their pen, often hot buns like to lie against or on it to cool down.

Since bunnies can’t sweat, I kind of made Zeus his own sweat when we visited my parents’ house last time (they don’t have AC).  I took a washcloth, soaked it in COLD water, and just kinda rubbed him all over with it gently.  He loooooved it, and just about buried his face into it.  Then I turned the ceiling fan on low, so the moisture on his fur (he wasn’t WET, just damp, that’s important, you don’t want to soak the bun!) would evaporate, cooling him further.

Great tip with the sock over the pop bottles, MB. I always put frozen bottles in their cages (haven’t had to do that yet this year, it’s been pretty cool so far) and there’s always a huge watery mess. Apparently, I’m too dumb to have thought of that!

we had a bad power outage on thursday from 2:30 until just before midnight,, no AC or fans.. before it finally went back on it was 86 in the house.
i was misting the bunnies and dunking my fingers in their waterbowls to massage onto their ears to keep them cool. it was really scary not knowing when it was going to be back on. a fire at the main power substation in the city knocked out power to about 80,000 people.

                              glad it wasnt today…
