Powder when we first got him HATED to be picked up or handled, like.. would completely freak out. The people at the shelter would pick him up by grabbing him by the ruff of the neck like he was a kitten in a mamma cats jaws or something then pulling him to their chests, I think he really disliked that way of being handled. I got many scratches trying to pick him up to do anything with him, so I didn’t force the issue and let the grooming be done by someone else until he trusted me more.

Well… we’ve been working with him for about 2 months now and I decided to try clipping his nails myself rather than having the vet do it. And he was a perfect little angel about it! I sat him on his beach towel on the bed and he stayed laying down while my boyfriend petted him/held him a little, the clip took only a few minutes for all four paws and after it was done, we stopped petting him and let him get up. Well… he moved his head up and looked at us and laid back down in his “pet me” pose and sat there for another 5-10 minutes getting pets afterwards. The clip didn’t spook him at all.

So proud of my little boy, when he first came to us he was friendly and sweet but not very trusting. When I pick him up now he’ll just lay in my arms rather than freaking out, so I can rub his neck with one hand and he’ll just lay across my other arm supporting him. Such a long way to go in such a short time.

Now… if he can just teach Stickers that I am NOT out to eat her when I try to pick her up

          Hahaha funny

Even when doing it the correct way, a rabbit may never get used to being held lol. They do think we are going to eat them.

That’s wonderful! Yay, Powder! I can’t believe you got to clip all four feet!

Hodari’s nails are growing so slowly, and I’m really happy about that! I handle her paws every day, trying to get her used to having them touched. Hopefully it will help when the time comes to clip her nails. Our plan is to use the same method you did. It worked when we had to give her her medicine. I can’t imagine her letting me do all four, though.
