I recently gave Thane a small cuddly dog that’s a similar size and colour to him to see how he’d react. At first it was kinda funny, he looked at it strange and then he’s started to groom it!

I can’t afford to get him neutered for another month or two, so I figured he might take out any tension he’s got building up on the dog and not my slipper!

I have a collection of stuffed animals in my bedroom lining one wall and my male, Powder will jump in the middle of them sometimes and groom them. I gave him his own stuffed dog but he wasn’t very interested in it. He peed on it and then ignored it.

Hannah came to us with “Stuffy”, her stuffed rabbit (we just started calling it that – not sure if he had another name at her old home). This thing is ratty and licked, but she loves it. When we first got her she would drag Stuffy all around the cage and snuggle up with him. Now that she has Otto she isn’t as into Stuffy, but she does pick him up and carry him around sometimes (I’ll come down in the morning to find Stuffy wedged in some corner far from where he was when I went to sleep, and sometimes I see her pick him up by the ear and drag him around). I’ve even caught Otto grooming Stuffy and he wasn’t interested in stuffed animals at all before. They’re funny.

Haha, bunnies, eh? Yeah they’re strange creatures!
So far, he’s not had too much interest!

I never thought a bunny would regard a stuffed toy with affection! Think I”ll try it—

All of mien have stufflies. And they all get groomed. Squirrel beats his up sometimes, but the others just groom them and ignore them otherwise

Here’s a picture of Hannah snuggling with Stuffy from one of the first days she lived with us. She’s such a cutie when she drags Stuffy around by the ears.

Fender has a brown rabbit that’s about the same size as her that she she’ll groom and push around as well as a little blue dog that the drags into her bed and food dishes. Super cute.

I think I’m seeing a pattern– all these “lovies” are furry, right?

Bumblebunny has two soft toys.  It took him several weeks to warm up to them; but now when he is out of his home he spends time grooming and playing with them.  We do not leave them in his home because his behavior goes in cycles and he likes to tear things up every so often.  We just feel we need to supervise him when he is around certain items.

I’m currently waiting to go looking for better bunny toy companions, because the currents ones don’t seem to do my bunnies any justice. They ignored, peed on, small…. And of course they also smell like the other rabbit so… I’ll put pictures of the stuffed toys up soon.

                                  Cute pics, Bumble and Elrowhen.

Olivia has a little bear that lives with her. Sometimes she loves him and grooms him, sometimes she beats the snot out him. Stormy has a stuffed bunny that he loves during his out-time in the living room but he goes mad with anger when I put one in his condo. Bindi can’t have stuffies in his cage because he pulled the head of a hippo once and got really sick from impaction. We think he ate the stuffing. We almost lost him. So please be very vigilant when giving your bunny a stuffie.

I also am a bit concerned about all the tiny beans/beads that many toys come with lately to make them bottom heavy or squishier. I was careful not to get one for Sammy, although she has absolutely no interest in her stuffed toys.
But if there’s a chance that your bunny might chew holes in it, like Bindi did, then you might want to stay away from the bean bag type.

I once tried the all natural stuffed toys that were sold for dogs in a major toy chain. She ignored that, too, but at least it was free of dyes and 100% cotton. Now I don’t bother to worry because she groomed each one once, waited to be groomed, didn’t get a response, and walked away. Forever.

Pixie and Aria share these toys, and right now these are just temps until I get the surrgate stuffed toy I really want to use.

Sorry the quality is horrid and the image is dark, I was in a dimly lit room taking these with my camera phone.

I rarely ever get a photo of the bunnies with the toys…  I will try one day.  :]

Mine just have a stuffed cat toy (it’s a little monkey) that they carry around every once in awhile. It depends on whether or not they are in a tossing mood.

I found three seemingly ideal stuffies– a tiny bear, a medium sized worm and a bigger bear. So far they have been totally ignored. Maybe tomorrow (hey, was there a song like that?). . .

Bunny has two: a “Hedgie” and “Frumpie.” The ‘hedgehog’ is actually an armadillo but I didn’t realize it until later. It was something I had and threw it in there with her when I first realized that rabbits like toys and stuff, and she lovedddd him. She puts him in the water dish so he can drink (and gets soggy and then I have to change the water) she puts him in the litterbox to potty, grooms him, etc.

The most important thing is she can hump them. She literally humped the stuffing out of Hedgie so for her Easter basket I got her a fump-a-lump duck, and it’s a ball so watching her hump it is soooo cute! (that sounds weird…O.o) I figured she would lose interest in Hedgie with the new toy..but nope.

Then once I was finally able to get Jack I knew she wouldn’t want them anymore…but she did. Jack will NOT let her hump him, so if she tries and fails, she goes to one of her stuffies. She loves them sooo much, and she even knows their names too. Jack though, has absolutely zero interest in them though..but oh well to each their own haha.

I got Rufus a rabbit that in fact looked like a real rabbit loafing, he was intrested in it and then i turned my back went to the kitchen got a glass of water and came back and the stuffed rabbit was well unstuffed…. he killed it and then killed it again for good measures! Got him a stuffed cat and it is still floating around, he worked out he can fling it so he flings it in the air and I find it ontop of a lot of things like the book shelf on in the kitchen sink.

Pam, I’ve noticed that all the stuffed toys seem to have those bean things in them these days. A lot also have eyes that would be easy to eat, or fake whiskers, etc. When I originally bought Otto a stuffed toy I got it from the dog section of the pet store. He never did like it, but it looks so much like Stuffy that I’m thinking of doing a switch and see if Hannah notices.

What a hoot! My bunnies still ignore their stuffies– I may be given a distaining sneeze every once in a while. So this week I’m into cage enrichment, bigger toys they can climb on and explore.

My rabbits are still treating their stuffies as if the toys are invisible. Does anyone ever use stuffies as a way to interact with their bunnies, like tug of war or chase the stuffie? (I’m thinking the rabbit chases the stuffie but if my rabbits would fling their stuffie, I think I’d chase it).
