I’d really like to have a soft area in my bun’s cage that she can lay on when she’s resting. I know buns will munch on fabric, so I was worried about whether I could put some in there or not. Would a safe, natural fabric be cool? Is there a fabric buns are less likely to eat? It’s okay if she chews it, and I can take it out if she starts eating it I guess, I just want her to stay safe.

Is it silly to think my bun would like a soft cushiony corner?

of course she would! i went to a haworth (an office furniture maker that my dad works at) warehouse, they had fabric from the office chairs for sale for like $2 a yard. its heavy duty and wont taste good to bun mouths, it doesnt stain easily and will hold up to claws well. i made a bed out of it for my bun and he loves it! i often find my male guinea pig laying on it also.

but of course you could just hop over to any pet store and buy one same difference

I tried giving both of my buns a bed and they really only use it as a launch pad.

Porky has a large cotton towel in his condo; he’s chewed a few holes in it, but not eaten it. I also line his litterbox with cloth diapers and hand towels, and he leaves those alone.

My bun Gabby really took to one of my daughter’s baby blankets. Then my daughter got jealous and I had to take it back.

Fleece is a good option. Unlike towels, when fleece is chewed it comes apart in clumps, not separate strings that can cause issues. Not that you want a bunny to eat a whole piece of fleece, but many of us use it and a hole here and there isn’t a problem. I like to buy a yard of it at a fabric store and then cut it into smaller sizes (usually about three pieces to a yard).

I have a chewer, so I actually covered the bottom of his cage with carpet tiles (the kind with sticky backs). I’m watching him to make sure he doesn’t chew it, but so far so good! It’s a tight berber, so there isn’t much for him to grab onto.
