Okay, so Ollie today hopped out, and sat beside me on the floor. She watched me really carefully, then cleaned her face all over. And then hopped away. I was like… She’s done it twice so far, and each time watches me for awhile like….are you gonna eat me?

And then she started taking her baby keys, which she loves, and hurtling them out of her cage at me. So I picked them up and tossed them back in. She grunted, and threw them again. So I left them. At which point, she hopped out, grabbed them, and threw them at me again. I tossed them back in the cage, and she shoved them under her couch. Was that a ‘play with me’, or a ‘bad human’?? She’s odd I tell you.

You are learning Bunny Language and the news is good. She WAS definitely playing with you and her keys. She was playing toss, and your job is to toss them back after she tosses them to you until she tires of the game. She clearly initiated it, and wants you to play. That’s excellent! Don’t be hurt if it’s only good for a couple of tosses. bunnies don’t always play a long time. (The grunt is a good noise: she is “honking”, a sound of pleasure.)

She does not think you are going to eat her, far from it, when she sits near you and washes her face. She thinks she is safe enough with you that she can do a bit of grooming without being worried. And perhaps you will notice how well groomed she is and give her some pets, too. She may let you, or hop away. But she’s slowly bonding with you. It’s all good.

Indeed. They won’t groom in front of you if they don’t trust you – they’ll go hide away some place and groom. It is making themselves vulnerable. Sounds like she’s settling in your room well.

              Isn’t grooming so very cute?

Oh, the grooming is insanely adorable!! <3 I just wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not.

As for the keys…. *gryns* She’s crazy. But I wasn’t sure if she had suddenly disliked them, and threw them, and it was ‘bad human’ for tossing them back, or what. She did it again when I got up, after I read these, and we played a few more tosses this time. Throwing is her new favorite thing.

Well, that and charging up and over the human to reach the bed full of blankets that she can dig and push and shove and rearrange. I swear, sometimes it’s like she possessed by a rabid interior decorator!!

Thank you guys so much. It’s been insanely reassuring to know I can pop in over here and ask silly questions about her. ^-^

Most rabbits love to ‘make the bed.’
