I haven’t had a voice for over 2 months (dr.’s have no idea why) when I talk it is this scratchy robotic like voice.
I don’t really talk because it takes so much energy to get sound out. Unless I scream then it is easier lol.
Today I was messing around with the rabbits and Pacey was being a butt and kept chewing on my shoes. So I said “Pacey no” he jumped straight up ears straight eyes wide and thumped.
I thought it was maybe because I told him no since he doesn’t like being told no.
But then I was up close to Dini (he seems to have a hard time hearing) and he was trying to climb out of his cage onto a table beside of it where his food was sitting and I said “Wait a sec Dini” I got the same reaction LOL
So I tested them and just said hey and both freaked out!
It’s quite funny now Pacey keeps eyeing me like “Please don’t talk, please don’t talk” ![]()
Pacey and Dini: “Hoomins should never talk. They should just give out treats.”
With your voice working, they must think you’ve become a stranger. 0_o
I have heard a lot about this in the news recently, something about the voice box swelling in a way that you can’t get out more than a whisper. It’s usually brought on by a past cold or flu, but sometimes comes out of nowhere. As soon as the doctor can relax your larynx, you can speak again. Oddly enough though, I don’t think when one has this condition that they can scream…which you seem to be able to do. (Perhaps it has something with having so many roommates that sometimes won’t listen except to a loud voice…lol.)
I agree with Cheddar33 or at least my bunnies do. They would love it if I would be quiet…after all, even a bunny will only really speak with it’s paws or ear flappies or just that GLARE. ^_^ I see them all go on alert if I happen to either clap my hands at the cats or smack a piece of furniture, causing a loud thump noise…then I have to use my voice to apologize…although that’s not as good as a craisin or two…or ten. >.<
Confucius say…the way to a bunny’s approval is ‘crinkling’….lol
I can’t scream it just comes out as air but the action is easier than trying to make sound.
Let’s see here…..I scared Eddie the first time I sneezed. And if I had a scratchy throat due to congestion, etc, I got that “youuuu’rrrreee weeeeeiiiirrrd….” look from them both and totally ignored. After my neck surgery, I wasn’t able to talk even though I tried and Eddie was messing with my friend’s rabbit through her pen. I tried yelling at him but he just looked at me and then went back to baiting her. So I had to get my friend to yell at him to stop. LOL My friend got a really bad cold and had that deep chest coughing. THAT completely freaked Eddie out and he thumped and dashed for cover.
They just don’t like it when we make weird noises or sound different. LOL
I hope you are able to figure what’s going on. I can totally relate. I’ve been dealing with my stupid spine for 3 years now and apparently nothing is wrong. Sigh. So I feel your frustration. ((((Hugs))))
That’s funny but gosh I really hope you figure out what’s going on and it’s nothing! I get laryngitis sometimes after a cold. Dave is always pleased because I have to write stuff down rather then verbally bug him. *eyeroll* lol
M&L your spine issues sound like my mom she can’t move most of the time but the drs say there is nothing wrong.
Lol KK my family is the same I talk A LOT so they are loving that i have to write to type everything I want to say. Me not so much so I have began to whistle at them (like to get a dogs attention) every time I want to say something lol I think they would all love for me to be able to talk now.
Dini is the funniest since he is so clumsy when it spooks him he trips over everything in his path.
Lol, I have a similar (although it sounds like much less serious) issue pretty much every year, I lose my voice for about two weeks to a month around August and September or around the beginning of winter. For me it’s the result of allergies and having a smaller than normal larynx that doesn’t require much blockage to be problematic. It’s a joy when I’m trying to be in a foreign language class, pleading “I can’t speak” for weeks really earns you points with an instructor. It doesn’t hurt and I don’t feel sick, it’s just an annoying pain in the butt. I don’t think I’ve had the problem since I had bunnies, so we’ll see if it freaks them out when I do!
You poor thing! I hope they can figure out what’s going on!
Sonn, that sounds miserable. I’m sorry you’re going through this and hope they can figure it out and cure it.
Meantime, the bunnies just don’t know it’s you. Kind of like suddenly finding that Fran Dresher is your new roommate. It’s startling.
Bunnies have much better hearing than we do, so it might make them a bit sensitive to the timbre of your voice now. Just keep talking, maybe from a different room just before you pop in their’s with a little treat for each and they will soon associate the sound with the treats.
Sammy and Spockie always reacted in the opposite way: they both eavesdroped on phone calls. I can’t talk on the phone without seeing little whiskers nearby. Bunnies are funny.

Eddie would always come out and sit and stare at me while I was on the phone. As soon as I’d get done, he’d hop off. Nosey little buggars! LOL
Been doing the treat thing so now they don’t look like I am going to eat them every time I speak lol
