Bonding Monty and Bea is going pretty well so far – no fights and fairly minimal humping. One aspect of Monty’s “friendly” behaviour has me stumped though. They’ve gotten to the stage when they’re starting to snuggle up a little bit more – snuggling noses under chins and so forth. But Monty seems to be trying quite over-enthusiastically to stick his entire head under Bea’s body!

He starts quite gently putting his head down or slightly under her chin to be groomed, which she will sometimes oblige, but then he quite roughly keeps pushing his head under her. She’s small compared to him of course, and when he does it she ends up sort of marooned on top of his head with her feet not touching the floor! She’s not so sure about it and generally runs off before he can manage it. It’s quite funny looking but I wonder what he’s trying to achieve! Is it trying to show dominance, or be friendly, or…? He ends up getting quite frustrated if she won’t stay still for it and starts to chase after her, although he stops if I give him the stern voice. Sometimes he seems almost agressive with it but it doesn’t turn into humping or fighting. She just runs off and he looks confused.

Has anyone else’s bun done anything like this? Will he ever get the hint and be a bit more gentle?

That’s pretty typical – he’s asking for groomies, but he’s going about it in a very awkward way. Haha.

Ha, Banner’s doing that too (it’s freaking Merry out). It seems to me to be typical adolescent male behavior

My girl did it during bonding as well – it tends to be the dominant ones that do it.

Chester does that to one of my cats.

Hahah yes that’s pretty common. I think it’s like that *cough cough* people do to hint but it’s not a hint and more like a smack on the head It’s very cute

BunBun does that to Nelli. Even though he’s the dominant one, he does way more grooming than she does. So he will put his head under her chin and wait patiently for a while, but then keeps getting more persistent as time goes on. I feel so bad for him- Nelli will finally give in and groom him for about 2 seconds, then “remember” she has some urgent grooming of her own to contend with, and abandon BunBun .
