Sometimes I wonder if Otto is deaf because I can yell in his face (not that I do this :-P) and he won’t even blink. But then I see his little ears swinging back and forth and I know he can hear, he just doesn’t care. lol. I imagine I sound like the teacher in Charlie Brown to him “Wah wah wah wah”. He also doesn’t seem to understand specific words – when I ask him to do a trick, he just does all of them and I have never been able to get him to understand which is which. He’s just guessing.

At least Hannah listens! A stern “no” makes her stop in her tracks and look at me. Which is good, because she likes to get into trouble, but at least she listens. When Otto gets in trouble, yelling or squirting with water don’t work – all I can do is get up and psychically move him away from whatever he’s doing. Haha.

So yeah, bunnies definitely have selective hearing!

Eddie was the same way. I’d yell his name at him and finally he’d perk up…”huuuuhhhhh? whhhhaaaatttt? You talking to me? Oh.” LOL Lolli’s ear will swivel towards my voice but she still won’t do anything but sit there.

                           Boy, ain’t that the truth! ~_~ I am certain Mimzy hears only what he wants to hear. And yet I think he does derive some joy from my voice when I’m talking to him…even if it’s just the ‘Bunny Commandement #1: Thou shalt have no other bunnies before me’ kind of enjoyment. Either that or he is waiting to hear something in HIS language…like the word, “treat.”

                            Pip seems to understand only one word…COOKIE. Then the frenzy begins….

                            Fiver is the only odd bun, he obviously enjoys hearing stories read to him. And he has his preferences…mostly fairy tales. Don’t ask me why. My daughter is a fan of books that are retellings of old legends and fairy tales and she used to read them to us all in the evenings. Fiver will be there in rapt attention, usually with his little apple plushie under his head so he can groom it while he listens. Too funny.

                             But ask a bun to do something for you? Nah. Prepare for foot flicks and grunts.

I’ve read variations of this with dogs, but it’s “What bunnies hear: wah wah wah lettuce wah wah wah wah treat wah wah their name wah wah wah NO wah wah wah pretty girl wah wah wah vet run run run run…..

Dutchess will give me one ear when I talk to her. Just one. No matter what I say or do (except talking about treats, of course) she will just laze around and only have one ear tuned on me. Surely she has the one ear to make sure I don’t say the word “treats”, otherwise I’m supposed to talk to her on her schedule, a.k.a. when she feels like it =p
