Yes, I’ve given my bunny some of the flowers along with the greens. She loves her fresh dandelions. We have bird feeders, too; not dozens, but a few, and they’re always well-stocked. You really shouldn’t have to worry about the birds as long as there aren’t swarms of them and you wash the greens you pick thoroughly. Usually bird diseases are spread to other birds when bacteria in their droppings contaminates bird seed at feeders. It’s almost always a bird to bird issue as far as I know. We also have ground hogs, deer, cottontails, chipmunks, squirrels, dogs, and cats running through our yard regularly. I just kind of expect it, especially during the spring. I think it’d be highly unusual for a pet bunny to get sick from eating dandelions that have merely been exposed to other animals. Carefully washing anything you pick should prevent any potential problems. Personally, I am more comfortable giving my bunny stuff from my yard or stuff that I am growing as opposed to giving her stuff from the grocery store, since I don’t know the circumstances associated with how that produce was treated before it got there. 

Captain Danger loves fresh dandelion greens and flowers! And I love being able to “harvest” them straight from my yard. Obviously we don’t use any chemical treatments on our yard–that would be my main concern re: safety of the greens. I’ve never tried drying them… we just harvest a bunch weekly over the spring/summer months.

Elles really loves dandelion greens and flowers. It think the only thing they could pick up from the birds would be parasites from dung, but if you wash them thoroughly and pick them from a cleaner looking patch, your babies should be just fine.

I agree- the greens and flowers are fine. I have given some to my bunnies. It is super cute to see them eat the stem and work their way up to the flower.

You could certainly dry them- but my bunnies mainly only seem interested in dry greens/flowers as a treat/hay topper. So I have not tried to dry any.

Porky adores the flowers. We’ve been feeding him fresh ones every none rainy day since they started blooming. I had the little human pick a whole bunch at the beginning of dandelion season, when there were way more then Porky could eat in our yard, and pressed them in hopes of saving some for winter.

Smudge had her first dandelion yesterday. She thought it was the best thing on earth. Today, she inhaled her leaf, then dove at Monkey and stole hers! lol. Silly girl

I’ve given them lots before-our yard was like-dandelion central. I sprayed last year though and haven’t given anything from the yard since….Even this spring I’m wary. But they loved them. If we weren’t going to try to sell soon I wouldn’t care about getting rid of them and might in fact fertilize and cultivate this ‘bunny gold mine’ I live on lol (Big dandlion problem in the yard lol) I never tried to dry them though-like katnip said they love the dried hay topper stuff on hay, but fresh dandelions are great.

I am a bad care taker I put bunny in a pen out in the yard to eat all the time, on nice days. I make sure she has water and shelter.. I also am out with her. She loves Dandelions.

Yeah, so long as you wash them, you’ll be a-okay.
