Hey everybody! Feels like forever and a day ago that I’ve given updates on Hemi. I’ve been so busy with finals I’ve almost all but forgot about the internet. Quick update on him first: I’m moved into my house for the summer and he absolutely loves it. He stays in my room but when it’s “play-time” he always seems to know and he’ll weave in and out of my feet when I go to the door. Once the door is opened it’s like a speeding bullet the way he races out at full speed and runs around binky-ing every three strides. He does this without fail, everyday. It’s quite adorable.  He doesn’t have his big cage with the xpen yet, just because I really haven’t had time between moving and school. I have created a playpen of sorts with the cube grids and he loves how its multi-leveled and he can climb up and down all day long.Oh and last but not least, Hemi has officially been fixed.

ANYWAYS, sorry for the long post, just thought I’d give an update on him, now for the real issue.

A friend of mine, and against my advice, adopted a pair of bunnies because she fell in love with Hemi and figured since I was having a relatively easy time with him that she would be able to handle one (or two). I tried so very hard to explain to her that I did months of research and planning and preparing before I even decided that I even wanted a bun, let alone actually getting one. So anyways, the two were/are bonded, and “supposed” to be fixed already, pair. One male, one female. So naturally she kept them in the same cage and they were one big happy family. When she took them to get their wellness check ups turns out Bella was pregnant, and had been when my friend got her.

So Bella had her three kits and here’s the problem, my friend cannot get them adopted out. They’ll be ready to go second week of July, and she has one family that’s interested in one of the males and there’s one remaining male, and one female. With no interest in the from anyone so far. For as much as I have fallen in love with having a bun, I would love to take both but I only really have the means and space for one. If I do decide to take one, I’m really worried about which gender to take and how Hemi will react. He’s my spoilled little baby, and he’ll even charge the cat when the kitty wants to come rub against my leg. Granted the cat is my roommates and he’s perfectly at peace with her hedgehog. Since the cat is male and Maggie obviously female is this some indication that I should probably get a doe? Or would a buck be a better choice? And would bonding him with a baby when he’ll be 10months in July be ok? I’m expecting it to be a challenge but I don’t want it to be dangerous.

Well, i have heard that an unspayed doe can be very agressive. This is what happend to Dakota. She is still unspayed but she has gotten a lot better and im going to spay her soon. Maybe you should introduce the two bunnies to Hemmi. And that would kind of let Hemmi choose. I hope this helps! Good Luck.

I would not let an adult rabbit “choose” a baby rabbit- the baby rabbit could easily be hurt. You will have to keep Hemi separate from the baby bunny until it is old enough to be spayed or neutered- and a recovery period after that. And that is when you can start bonding.
I don’t think Hemi’s reaction to the cat or hedgehog shows any preference to gender- he just finds the cat more threatening.
