A coworker of mine is… let’s say, old fashioned … when it comes to rabbit care. He has a lionhead, he thinks, that is around 2–4 months old, aprox. 3 lbs, and he is too busy to take care of it. He took it as a trade from a 4H kid for some goats.

My parent’s have agreed to keep her for me at their place and my brother is extremely excited. He said “She can stay in my room! Ill get it bun-proofed. He is 19, so I trust that he is old enough to be responsible. His only stipulation was that he got to name her

So, I am planning to get things ready at their house this week, set up a wellness check for her with Huckle’s vet. We are hoping to schedule her forever-home homecoming for next weekend!

So, any suggestions? Im not sure what I need advice on… I guess I feel nervous.

I’m glad that your brother is prepared to give that bunny a better home. Is the bunny outside in a hutch right now?

I would buy him a good starter bunny care book. I recommend “Bunnies for Dummies”. Great info. I learned a lot from it after I got Stormy.

Of course, pics will be mandatory!

I’ve pointed him towards this site to start reading up on care amd all. I’ll have to look into that book.
From the info I have been given at this point, the rabbit is outside in some kind of chicken cage. She is being fed the hay they give their horses and some pellets (i think) from a feed store. I’ve read the ingredients to the kind I think they are giving her and it’s very high in fat. He picks her up by the scruff of her neck and doesn’t trim her nails because he doesn’t know how. It hasn’t been to a vet because he does his own vet work.
I don’t want to be judgemental or rude about it but the rabbit needs to be inside and in better circumstances.

This is exciting. : ) Your brother does realise that a lionhead is very different to your Huckleberry doesn’t he?

I think you mentioned this before but there were 2 rabbits that this person had? It that right?

Anyway, congrats! Sounds like this rabbits new home can’t happen soon enough!

I was going to suggest Tom Sawyer as a name but just realised it’s a girl bun! Any names decided yet?

Hmm… I hadn’t really thought about them being very different, aside from grooming needs…. Explain, please!
There were 2 or 3 rabbits but someone took the 1 or 2 boys. He still has the girl though.
I would LOVE for him to name her Tow Sawyer… or Ichabod Crane because I LOVE Sleepy Hollow. He is naming it Piro though, I guess after an anime or something. Maybe he will change his mind after he meets her!
I cant wait to pick her up on Saturday!!!

Do you guys think that there is any reason to be concerned that the rabbit would have picked up a disease or anything that would passed from farm animals to my parent’s pets (cats and dogs).

                      Nice new name Huckles!

I don’t think you need to worry too much about cross-species disease transmission, though things like fleas or mites might be more of a concern.

I was just referring to looks and size.

I agree, I don’t think there’s too much to worry about. Things like mite, fleas, ringworm are all easy things to treat.

Im going insane waiting for her! The guy says his wife is pretty sure it is a lionhead and dark gray. I really hope she is! They are so cute! We will all love her no matter what she is though.
My brother is acting like a 5 year old at Christmas time hahaha. We are all very very excited.
I didn’t think I would have to worry much about passing on diseases but we have had a dog that barely survived parvo once after she escaped and ended up in the pound.
Ill double check with the vet on Monday but if you guys think she is ok, Im sure she is.
I hope she will be smaller than Huckles, the cage they have right now is a large dog crate. We are working on getting a bigger one but she will have to be in that while my brother is at work. I am hoping to add a shelf for her for extra room but I want to see how big she really is first.
