So my grandma is not doing well at all.  She had the stint put in at the end of April which is helping.  But now she has internal bleeding somewhere as she had blood in her stool.  They had to do a blood transfusion and do a colonoscopy today.  So we don’t know what the results are yet.

My grandma is 80 and it looks like she is starting to go downhill due to age.  She keeps falling so she won’t be able to go home even though she wants to.  It all started with spine problems from osteoporosis.  Then she fell and broke her hip and needed a partial hip replacement.  While she was in the hospital recovering from that, she had the heart spell where she passed out and  her heart stopped.  So they put the stint in.  And now this.

        Just need some vibes.

                Thank you!

My grandma got the results of her colonoscopy and they couldn’t find anything. So they think it was a combination of the cumidin (sp?) she’s on for her heart and asprin and possibly other drugs that irritation her stomach/bowels enough to make them raw and bleed. So….so far so good. I don’t know what else is going to be tested for, if anything. They will be testing her blood count and if it continues to be low, they will give her more blood. I guess now we just see if the blood in her stool continues after they adjust her medications.

One of the side effects of Coumadin can be bloody stool, doesn’t need to be a mix with other meds to have it happen.

Also, as both Coumadin and aspirin thin the blood, you should have your grandmother talk to her doc about it. It could be dangerous to be on both, especially with the bloody stool happening. She could bleed, and not stop. The docs should know this! *angry face*

My mom was on it Coumadin when she had blood clots in her leg and her lung.

Your grandma will also have to ask about what she is allowed to eat – my mom had to watch what she ate while being on Coumadin o_O something to do with vitamin K.

I don’t know why she was given asprin. Maybe because her blood pressure was still fluctuating after the stint was put in. I don’t know the exact details. But they are going to be adjusting her meds.

But that was one of the first thoughts that came to mind after the initial “she’s bleeding internally” scare – that maybe it was one or some of her medications. She is allergic to a lot of pain meds so if she was being given advil a lot or something, that could cause irritation. I don’t know. But she is doing better and that’s what counts!
