So for the final exam of my MA program (not counting of course my big competency exams in august, booo) I had to write an essay on any topic of my choice in Arabic. My instructor suggested writing about a history topic, but how boring is that? So I wrote a fairy tale about bunnies. I figured some of you might get a kick out of it, so here’s the english draft. If the language is a little weird, that’s because I wrote this with translating it to Arabic in mind, so the grammar might sound a bit odd.
The Tale of Princess Budur the Bunny and Prince Qamar the Fluffy
Once upon a time in a land called Papaya City there lived a beautiful princess named Budur The Bunny. Budur was the most beautiful bunny in all the world. Her fur was as white as snow, her eyes were as red as the setting sun, and her nose as gray as a stormy sky. She was also a very kind bunny, she often shared her carrots and toys with the poor bunnies in her kingdom.
One day, a great sorcerer came to Papaya City. He was walking in the bazaar and shopping for exotic vegetables,

when he heard a woman singing. He followed the singing to the castle and he saw Budur hopping in her garden. He fell in love with the beautiful bunny. He went to the castle and asked the princess to marry him. The princess told him that she was already engaged to a handsome Prince named Qamar the Fluffy. The sorcerer became angry. He grabbed Princess Budur and with an explosion of light, they both disappeared from the castle. The sorcerer magically whisked the princess away to a tall tower. He locked her in the tower and told her, “You can come down when you agree to marry me!”

When the brave and very handsome Prince Qamar learned that his beloved had been kidnapped, he immediately hopped to her rescue! Across the world he searched for her and the sorcerer. One day a passing frog informed him that the sorcerer lived in a dark and terrifying castle on top of a nearby mountain. Prince Qamar hopped as quickly as he could until he found the castle. He fought a vicious, demon bunny at the castle gate.

But after a heroic battle, he hopped inside the fortress. He heard sad, beautiful singing from the tower and saw Princess Budur standing in the window. There were no stairs to the tower so he hid in the bushes and watched for the sorcerer.
Eventually the sorcerer arrived, he knocked three times on a stone and a djinni appeared and carried him to the top of the tower. After the sorcerer came down from the tower and disappeared, Prince Qamar knocked three times on the stone and the djinni appeared again. The djinni looked surprised, but carried Prince Qamar up to the tower. Princess Budur hugged him, and the djinni took them both down to the ground.
The sorcerer looked out his window and saw the two bunnies hopping away, he ran out of his castle and began casting magical spells. Prince Qamar jumped in front of the Princess to protect her.

They began to run again, the sorcerer close behind them. When suddenly, Prince Qamar was caught in one of the sorcerer’s traps! He struggled to escape, but he could not.

He told Budur to keep running, but she stayed with him. Closer and closer the sorcerer came. Budur looked around and found a broken mirror; she picked up a piece without knowing that it was in fact a magical mirror. When the sorcerer caught them, he tried to cast a spell on Prince Qamar, but Budur’s magical mirror protected them and the spell instead turned the Sorcerer into a harmless kitten.

Prince Qamar the Fluffy and Princess Budur the Bunny lived happily ever after.
