i took rue outside for a little bit earlier.  our yard is securely fenced, but there are areas that i don’t want her going, so i have to watch her like a hawk.  i can’t wait till i can get them a playpen so they can spend more time out with us!  she absolutely loved it.  digging in the grass, following goose like a puppy, munchin on the green goodness.  she did more binkies in the little time she was outside than i’ve ever seen her do before!

So, Rue, as a rather furry rabbit who has to bathe herself with your own tongue, how do you feel about hopping around outside in the dirt?

Sure cute! I hope when we get a house we can take the bunnies outside and they enjoy it as much as she did.

A little word of caution from an overprotective slave: when taking them outside, be sure that the grass was not sprayed with pesticides when cared for, as that is bad for eating. also, you might want to provide a little shelter option in a spot outside, like an overturned plastic container with a hole cut out of one end for the bunny to be able to hop into for safety. The expression “watching like a hawk” can be taken literally. We have so many hawks down here that an exposed bunny in an open lawn can be snatched up very quickly. Chasing your bunny into safety is one option if you hear or see a predator approaching.

              Love the binkies of happiness!

                mark- lol

pam- i appreciate your concern. no pesticides, fertilizer, or any other harmful substances have been used on our grass. i have many animals and a small child, so i avoid any chemicals in our home that are not absolutely necessary, and choose natural alternatives whenever possible. it may be full of weeds, but our grass is safe for anyone who chooses to nibble it. she had access to several hiding areas where she could feel secure, but i could still remove her if i needed to, including a covered porch and a large igloo in the shade. i also know to watch and listen for hawks, and kept an eye on the sky the whole time she was out.
