My Stan is just over 1 year, is neutered and fully litter trained. The only place we really bond is when I’m in bed, each morning and evening he’ll come and snuggle up for cuddles, he used to do this when I’d sit on on the couch but he doesn’t really do that any more.
I love this time with him and don’t want it to stop but he has developed a habit of digging at the bedding then peeing and poops especially when I’m in it. I’ve tried putting a litter tray in various places in the room (including on the bed!) to try and persuade him to use it instead but he won’t go near it let alone in it! Each time I clean the area using an enzyme cleaner to remove the smell etc. Along with changing the bedding it’s a nightmare!
I love the bonding session with him, I don’t want it to stop as it’s one of the few places he will come for cuddles but I can’t have this behaviour. He has no problem getting on or off the bed so it’s not a case of once he’s up there he’s stuck.
What’s going on? Is he marking his territory? Showing his annoyance at me – what? More importantly how can I get him to stop?
Any advice greatly received,
Kirstie x
