Hi everyone, Dandela is doing great. It was hard getting these pics because she loves hoping around and all. We have a vet for next week that is going to cost me a Total of $110 for blaze and Dandela. Which I think is a good price. Come with the poop test to. In the photos is some pellets I want you to see and tell me what you think. Start reading where it says weaning.
She loves being by my feet and running up to me for a pet on the head and back. She is so friendly and great. So the vet, pics and pellets are out of the way now. I found this out too. That one breeder got back to me and this is what she wrote………..
“Sorry, on just getting back to you. I’m having my other computer worked on. Both Jrs are still for sale. That’s a really great question with a really hard answer. I should be actually selling them for more than that because of their rarity in CA & the US. Rex should generally be sold for more because they’re for show, pet, meat, fur, multiple purposes. The grandfather alone I purchased for $175 2 years ago. I would say overall the reason why I priced the broken black lower is: she starts slow on her curve from the base of the neck. Or that she’s a little long in the shoulders where the black doe doesn’t, currently. She still is a really nice looking and cool rabbit. The broken still has an awesome jr coat for color and perfect pattern. I think better than the black. The black at the moment just has a better body and that is worth more points. I’ve read breeders say that the body & coat will not change in a Rex past 8 weeks. I beg to differ or it’s just my bloodlines. I’ve seen my rabbits hit 1 year and change for the better in body and coat but still similar to their junior disposition.
For me it depends on: What I think the judges are looking for. The closest degree of points to the Standard of Perfection book.
Health
Body & Structure
Coat Density & Feet
Color
Pattern
Personality
Pricing is just how well you know your stuff. Your personal opinion and what you think someone else really wanting one will pay for. I’m almost close to what I want my rabbits to look like. At the moment I’ve choosen to start all my rabbits at a $50 baseline. If better I sell above. If I want to give a deal or short on space or a rabbit that is just not to my liking but would make a great addition to a home, breeding program or new members I’ll lower. Where as of now I’m still in the experimental stages after 2 years almost trying to make national competitive Rex Rabbits. I breed and sell for better, usually keeping the best of each litter.
Hope that helped, hope it makes sense I’m in a huge hurry =)

So now we all know and you can go here for the new pics.

Cost of rabbits Does. Not. matter.
Monkeybun, it matters to some people more than others; I don’t think it matters to most of us in the community. We obviously aren’t changing her mind about it, and neither is she forcing us to discuss it. However, I feel that she should be free to share the information if she wishes.
New1bunny, I’m glad you had your question answered since you were curious. Let us know how the vet visit goes.
I will, were you able to see the pics. what did you think of them?
I thought you were going to the vet today? I was looking forward to hearing how she is
She looks bigger than 6 weeks though.
She’s so pretty!
As for the food, the protein Fiber should be a minimum of 18%, and the fat needs to be a max of 2%. While 2 and .5% might not seem like a lot, it is. Did you read the diet care article on this website? It has the required nutrition for bunnies. It doesn’t mention that bunnies under 6 months should only have timothy hay (or orchard grass) and pellets though, or if it does I didn’t see it.
Edit to fix-
I did go to the vet today, every vet in town and none of them did bunnies, so I have to go out of town to the vet. just the trip there is Distance: 40.46 mi Time: 49 mins . Where can I get these pellets she needs, on the internet cause no one here carries min protein of 18%, and fat (max)2%. I will have to get it off the net somewhere, can you help?
she is suppose to be 7wks on sat, but can’t be sure till the vet visit, she was one of the smaller bunnies they were selling, but all were the same age. She has a pretty coat don’t she. what color would you say she was, having a coat like that and a white belly, she has a bit of grey near her hinds so I know she is not a solid.
Whoops my bad, min FIBER should be 18, not protein.
Ah I see, I misunderstood. I have to go out of town too, although I don’t think it’s 40 minutes. I went to the oxbow site to see who they sell through, heres one- http://www.petfooddirect.com/Product/4039/Oxbow-Bunny-Basics-15/23-(Alfalfa-Based)
but when the bunny gets old enough you’ll need to switch to an adult timothy based pellet.
She’s really pretty, I have no idea what her colors are though!
40 miles isn’t so bad! Good job finding a vet that will do rabbits! It is very important.
I think the minimum protein can be as low as 14%. Look for Oxbow Bunny Basics Adult Rabbit food (http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/products/type/fortified_food?node=1519) or ZuPreem Nature’s Promise Rabbit food (http://www.zupreem.com/our-food/small-animals/natures-promise%E2%84%A2-premium-rabbit-food). They are similar in price, but ZuPreem may be a little cheaper. Be conscious of the amount you are feeding her. She should have unlimited pellets for now, but I *think* in about a month, you can begin limiting her pellet intake using the guide on the back of the bag of food..(so many ounces of food per lbs of bunny body weight).
BinkyBunny does sell the Oxbow food.
I would say she is a fairly standard brown. While she’s not a solid, she’s not a tort or broken.
Again, good job finding a rabbit vet! You will feel so much better knowing she’s healthy and savvy vets are invaluable. Ask any questions you think of (I write all of them down before the appointment.. my memory is shot
). $110 for both the bunny and dog are very good and very reasonable prices. I have been to three different vets for my bunnies and the cost for the exam was $60 at all of them.
You’re right Tate, I’m a dork and was reading protein % as Fiber %. Or visa versa… Either way, LOL, I edited to clarify ![]()
I honestly don’t understand buying/having any animal with the intention of showing it. To me my pets are members of my family – my primary concern is for their health, happiness and well-being, not for how well they “show” or what they’re worth. I wouldn’t parade a child in front of a bunch of judges to be critiqued on body shape, teeth, weight, hair, poked and prodded etc and I wouldn’t subject any of my pets to it either. I guess it’s a little different for dogs – some dogs really like showing off – but I’ve never met a bunny or cat that loves being scrutinized like that.
I remember when Scooter and I took Bailey to a little bunny show that was going on in one of the malls. Silly us, being new to bunnies, we thought these would be like-minded people who thought of bunnies as more than just a commodity. And some of them were, and were very nice. Mostly we saw bunnies crammed into little wire cages. When one of the breeders found out that our Bailey was a) a mixed breed and b) neutered she looked at us like we were filth. It was obvious she thought our wonderful little Bailey was disgusting.
Sorry, I just can’t understand people who look at animals solely for their monetary value and not for their intrinsic value. And the fact that the breeder quoted above specifically mentioned using rabbits for meat and fur is… disgusting.

Great job finding a vet. Looks like it took a bit of time to find one and 40 miles isn’t too bad! Maybe you ask your vet if there is a local store that may sell better pellets. OXbow brand is good pellet and it now being sold in store at both Petco and Pet Express around here. I don’t know if they sell the Oxbow brands in all of their stores or whether or not you have either of those stores nearby….or near the vet.
Looks like the breeder was able to get back to you to help satisfy your price curiosity. I am familiar with Rexes, but I guess I am confused by how they look when they are young. Is your bunny supposed to be a Rex? His fur doesn’t look typical of a Rex if that is the case or maybe a Rex owner who has a had a Rex since it was a baby could help explain. Either way though, Dandela is absolutely adorable. VERY cute.
Regarding finding Oxbow pellets, their website also has a product locator – http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/contact/find_products;jsessionid=174AF7DACB9171B146F0AE3EAA11D3F5.vipa-02b
I had originally made the same mistake of feeding not so great pellets because Oxbow is notoriously to find around here. The product locator tells you retail and vet locations that sell their products so I’m sure you can find something near you!
I believe Oxbow is being sold at PetsMart and ZuPreem is at Petco. Smaller pet shops will probably sell the Oxbow as well.
Annette, in response to your comment about not “showing” a member of your family… keep in mind, lots of people not only show animals, they “show” their children as well. People will do anything for what they perceive as fame/recognition and/or money. *Rolls eyes*

i thought this, too. i had a mini rex foster that came to me around 5 or 6 weeks old. from the start, he had the dense, tight rex coat. dandela is adorable, but her coat looks like a normal rabbit coat to me. here’s a question for you, can you run your fingers *through* her fur? what happens if you brush it backwards? that small, felix’s fur was so tight, it actually made him look almost bald in areas, mainly around his neck/shoulder area.
I am with Mossling… she is absolutely beautiful, BUT… doesn’t look like a rex to me at all. Rexes usually have the almost non-existent curly whiskers, no excess fur on their feet, and in pics, you cannot see the outline of individual fur sticking up. The youngest I have seen a mini rex (in person) has been my Meadow when she was about 4 months old.
If you look at my lop, Max, you can see the individual hairs/fur… Meadow looks like it’s just solid fur, especially when looking at his black spots. With Meadow, her black is solid, because there are no visible hairs/fur.

In this pic, you can see the curly rex whiskers and how there is not a single long hair on her.

Beautiful bunny!
For ordering pet stuff online, I like to use Drs Foster and Smith and the BB store.
Her color is called agouti. The agouti colors are a family of colors, so specifically I’d say she’s a chestnut, which is the standard “wild rabbit” color (not that she’s related to wild rabbits, just that they have the same color). The agouti family colors all have the white belly and the different bands of color on each hair.
I also agree with the others that she’s not a rex, unfortunately. Very cute mix though!
Scooter here. It could be that the real reason that idiot woman at the bunny show thought Bailey was disgusting was because she knew, deep down, that Bailey could have taken all those show bunnies on.
Bailey’s taken out small dogs several times his size…and won.
