Am I the only one that has a hard time finding clothes nowdays?
I’m of average height, but I have wider hips, and wide feet.
Most of the pants that I try on are my size but won’t even go up because.. ding ding! Wide hips! It seems like pants are made for straight leg/hips and it makes me want to pull out my hair
The only brand that I have no issue with is Unionbay and their pants have been very good to me. My work sells them all of the time, so it is kind of tempting (with employee discount, plus extra off if it is clearance or if I have a coupon!) sometimes.
Also, I have a hard time finding shoes. I was given my parent’s giant feet.. I’m a size 9, WIDE. At shoe stores, most of the shoes are for ‘M’ foot width. I ask for the wide foot selection and am presented with ugly, unglamorous shoes
. I finally found a nice pair, made by Kelly RIpa. She has her own brand of shoes out and one try and it fit and I was happy
I’m gonna find another pair of the same shoes I have and use one for work, one for working out.
Personally, my problem recently is that recent fashions are so…weird. I can walk into a mall or something and not see a single thing I like. The things that kids wear these days…*humph* lol.
I do hear you on the wide hips/wide feet thing; while I don’t quiiiite have size 9 feet (more like 7), shoes that look nice on display always look strangely…stretched and squished on my feet, lol. So very disappointing
. Also, having a long torso and wide hips/shorter legs makes some things look awkward on me, and jeans quite difficult to find.
i have a heck of a time finding clothes that fit, pants especially. or long sleeved shirts. My back is long, legs are short sooo… yeah. thus why i like dresses for spring/summer now
finding jeans that are short enough, but wide enough in the hips is hard, or shirts long enough but not too large.
Can’t wait for summer ![]()
Well muffin tops must be ‘in’, because all I ever find in the stores are pants, shirts and other outfits that tend to show mine off, to an alarming degree! 0_o;
And my other problem is, although I’m pushing 50, my fashion sense got stuck somewhere about when I was 16-18 years old, because all I ever gurgle over are clothes that would look lovely on a young girl, but when I try them on they look hideous on me. (Can you say, ‘cougar-tacky’?) So I think no matter how warm the summer is, I’ll be sticking with fleece and t-shirts or sweatshirts…if I can find any of THOSE that don’t scream ‘bag lady chic.’
Shoes? Hogeeze, as long as there isn’t snow on the ground or I’m not walking into somewhere, I’m going barefoot. Much cheaper that way. I used to have size 9 narrow, but after the kids and all the time I’ve spent on my feet, I think I moved up to size 10 canoe! My arches are completely gone, so I have to at least wear trainers to be comfortable.
WalMart used to carry a line of sandals I liked that are mostly flats, but they are cute and comfortable. Earth Spirit is what they’re called I think.
Don’t even get me started on swimsuits…. >_>
reminds me, i need a new swimsuit. I kind of.. outgrew my last top >.>
Somtimes men’s jeans fit me better because they are roomier in the hips area than women’s are.
I wear a lot of men’s pajama bottoms around the house for that very reason. My tummy doesn’t like being constricted. But you can’t wear that stuff outdoors!
Otherwise, I don’t particularly care for men’s clothes except for things like hoodies. I love oversized hoodies. ^_^
girrrrrrrrrrrrrl, don’t even get me started haha.
I’m tiny, only 5’1.5″, but I have curves. I’m not skinny but I’m not chubby or anything either–it’s just that I have hips, boobs, and a now a butt thanks to the gym bahahaha. My legs have also been pretty muscular and toned, so size 4 or 5 jeans fit me in those areas, but they’re super long! with companies like American Eagle and Levi’s I can squeeze into a size 2 but it’s definitely not comfortable lol. I swear by leggings now, since they are always going to fit =P I’m not a girly girl at all, but when the weather’s nice I prefer wearing dresses or shorts since they’re so much easier and comfortable to fit into. There are also so many times I see cute tops, but I have trouble getting them over the twins, or it’s way too tight and looks awkward and kind of trashy. Thankfully those loose fitting tops [kinda like the 80s] are in style now, so that problem’s been fixed for me too haha.
my problem with shoes is that my feet are too SMALL! lol. I’m a size 5, 5.5 and some stores don’t even carry anything below a 6 =[ if you haven’t found zappos.com yet, definitely check it out. they always have sizes and the return is free, and they are super quick with shipping.
I’m 4’9″ with size 3 CHILDREN’S feet. Sometimes I can wear size 5 IF I can find them. I’ve gained 20 lbs over the past year and I just went today to buy a new pair of pants for work. It was quite depressing. The problem isn’t the fit so much. I can’t get the stupid things closed over my gut. I am lucky in that I’m so short that capris usually fit me like regular pants on everyone else with the length. But I have a hard time with lots of clothes fitting me right.

Weird fashion is.. right ![]()
well I’m 5’11 so I can never find pants!! The talls in the regular stores are too short and the tall stores are like 5 inches too long! ughh
And here I thought I was the only girl in the world with this problem.
I’m 21, 5’5″ size 9.5-10 wide shoe and have wide hips and a 39.5″ bra band.
Everyone says I look normal, but they don’t MAKE clothes for people with wide hips anymore. I have given up to just wearing leggings and workout pants from Walmart because jeans do not fit me.
I have used FashionBug’s jeans in the past where they have special jeans for curvier people, and have a way to match you up while you’re at the store, but if they’re not on sale, they’re pretty expensive. So I’ve just been living in workout pants from Walmart that still look nice and cost me under $11
And yes, the shoes that fit girls like us are UGLY. I see tiny girl feet walking everyone with the cutest boots/flats/sneakers and I CANT HAVE THEM BECAUSE OF MY GIGANTIC FEET.
Plus looking at my sister’s generation (she’s 7 years younger) they are all tiny hips, tiny waist, tiny feet, GIANT boobs.
Guess I was born 7 years too late ? ;(
The pants solution is definitely tailoring. It costs a little more time and money, but it is worth it when shopping for pants is so damned frustrating.
I am tall and stick-thin, but have hips. And no butt. So my problem with pants is if they fit my legs and butt right, they won’t button around my hips, but if they fit my hips right, they’ll be to big on my legs and butt (and waist). Skinny b*tch designer jeans with a lot of stretch tend to fit me well, but I’m el cheapo.
Also, everything on my body is long. So same problem with shirts… super skinny with small boobs, but long torso, so things that fit me well around my tiny-ness are usually too short and I hate having a skin belt, haha. I’m glad tunic-type tops have been in style for a while now.
I have a long torso and I am SOOOO glad that longer shirts are coming back into style. I need a shirt that goes past my belly button to make me look nicer.

I don’t get it either
I’m the same height as you and have the same isssue.. with pants ![]()
My friend lived in Japan and said they are all just straight and only 3 clothing sizes ![]()
Heh, this is such a girl conversation! I have super narrow feet so I have no problem at all finding dress shoes that fit. I think they assume women with wider feet are willing to just shmoosh them in. But I can’t ever find casual comfy shoes that fit. They’re all too wide! And trying to find knee high boots that will zip over my rather muscular calves, forget about it. And the other day I was shopping for suits and more professional clothes for law school visits and thanks to my… bustiness, almost everything made me look like a naughty librarian. lol. Women’s clothing makes no sense at all. When I go shopping with my boyfriend it’s obvious how much more sense men’s clothing sizes and designs make. Not sure about men’s shoes, my boyfriend never seems to have problems but maybe he has ‘average’ shaped feet.
Sheez… Count me in as well…
Plus size is almost non-existent in the Philippines! If I do find large sizes, it looks like a shapeless sack on me since the front needs to be filled, and I don’t have the “goods” to fill ’em. Or I look like a grandma and I’m only 27!
Shoes too! their largest is either 8 or 9… I have wide and thick feet, I would need something at least a size 10 for me not to walk in pain.
I’m definitely in the curvy/wide hips club too. The only place that sells pants/jeans that I can wear is Ann Taylor Loft. They have a line of “curvy” styles that are all a little roomier around the hips but have a nice slimming effect through the leg. And I love them because they have curvy versions of skinny, boyfriend, trouser, etc! Seriously, they are a god-send for girls with hips! They do get a little pricy but I just buy them when they’re on clearance or when they have sales. I actually just got some this weekend because they were having an extra 40% off the clearance section! ![]()
And omg yes on the wide feet thing! I wear a size 9 and my feet are super flat and wide. I used to just smoosh my feet into whatever cute shoes I could find cause I didn’t want to constantly wear the heinous ones that seemed to come in my proper size. Now I have plantar fasciitis and basically can only wear birkenstocks and sneakers. Boo
Clearly someone needs to start designing clothes/shoes in a wider range of sizes and lengths
Haha, it sounds like we’re a bunch of statistical anomalies here, in terms of body shape/size. I wear “curvy” jeans, usually in short sizes, although I’m 5’5″ and 110 lbs. Weird isn’t it? Agreed that men’s clothes make so much more sense. My boyfriend always asks why I need to try on my jeans before I buy them…he just looks at the band size and length and grabs what he needs, lol. It’s never gonna work for me…
Oh same here!!!! I hate the fashions! When the heck will the 80’s die?
And I will never understand the current trend at my college, Ugg Boots or Gladiator sandles with those Adidas wind-breaker material shorts and a nice sweater or shirt. They look like they spilled coffee on their laps and only had gym shorts to change into!!!! (I rant about this way too often)
As for clothes that fit, I am 5’1, 115 lbs, and I cant find ANYTHING!!!! If I buy boot cut jeans the knee of the jean hits my mid-shin. If I buy skinny leg jeans, my wide hips transform me into one to the original oompa loompas. Shirts are awful too because they are always too tight around wide arms. Shoes are just a lost cause. I am a size 5 1/2 with stupidly high arches…. they barely even make that size and when they do, stores around here dont order them, and if I am lucky enough to find a shoe that fits, the arch is pathetic, which means paying even more for the arch supports.
Let’s not even begin to talk about price and quality! I am such a penny pincher…. unless it involves Huckleberry of course lol

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! I totally feel the same way!!!! What is with that?! My brother’s friends are all around 17-18 and look like runway models. Every one of my friends is shaped like I am, wide hips, small waist, small (if any) breasts.
What makes less sense is that all of these kids had less exercise growing up than I had. I didn’t have video games and internet until I was 15, by then I was too busy dating and dreaming about driving to play video games or chat online (lol, how things have changed). I was outside, riding my bike EVERY DAY!!! My brother and his friends grew up inside (consequently he is Vampire white and I get confused for a hispanic frequently in the summer). He never does anything! He lounges around and watches youtube. He is 8 inches taller than me and weighs LESS!!!! All of his girl friends are the same way! And the Huge Boob thing is just not fair! I drank my milk! What happened?! 1990’s commercials lied to me!
Kate Monster – I have the opposite problem with boots – they’re always too wide for my scrawny chicken legs!
Livingonfaith – I don’t mind having small boobs aside from clothing fit. They get in the way less. It’s funny too because all the women on both sides of my family have huge knockers (mom is a DD and my grandma was an I or something ridiculous before she had them reduced). Apparently I got a recessive gene, hahaha. But I am super skinny and kinda tall, so I would look absurd with big ones. Though if other family members are any sign, they may explode in size when I have children. Other than that, I’m happy with their smallness! They’re nice and proportionate. I would never waste my money on getting them enhanced (unless I had to get a mastectomy for health reasons, which will hopefully never happen).
*raises hand* Me too!
I’m in the tall camp – 5’10” with really long legs (34.5″ inseam). Most pants in stores are only 32″ or 34″, so I always order tall sizes in 36″ (only a few stores even carry that length – often “tall” is 34″). It’s frustrating! Otherwise pants fit me ok – I have small hips and a larger waist, but at least I can always find something that fits my waist and it will probably be ok from there. I get that horrible spare tire thing going on if I’m even a couple pounds overweight, so I’m trying to lose the last 10lbs so I can fit into clothes like I want to again.
My upper body is short, but I have a large chest which is difficult. My arms are also really long, so I generally can’t wear a shirt or sweater unless it’s a tall size (and I have a lot of tall size shirts that shrunk after the first wash and don’t fit anymore).
Clothes shopping is definitely frustrating! I just get everything from Banana Republic now – I know I like their styles and they fit me really well, so it’s one stop shopping. It’s more expensive than some places, but their stuff fits me wash after wash and I wear it for a long time, so I figure it’s worth it. I have a lot of cheaper clothes that just barely fit me when I bought them and are now way too short.
Have you guys noticed that children’s clothes are.. getting bigger? O_o I can fit into a XL in Kids.. if I try.
Livingonfaith, my body type is similar to yours. I have a small chest, small waist, wide hips. From working out, I have slightly muscular legs. I embrace it and it hasn’t changed my pant size. I have gone up a shirt size since working out – my shoulders are a bit broader now.
I sometimes feel like these designers don’t have the people in mind but $. It is.. annoying as poop!!!
LOL I have read that cup size has actually gone up froma few decades ago. It could be likely due to being inactive, or genetics, or a combination of both.
It is nice to know all the BB ladies have troubles too.. *sigh*
I can wear a kid’s medium or large as a baby tee. Haha.
I can’t fit into kids stuff anymore. I used to be able to, but my chest like exploded or something. lol! I keep telling my hubby I want to cut the damn things off, they get so annoying sometimes. Then he gets pouty faced. ![]()
I used to be able to wear youth large tshirts – they used to be the same as adult small, but shorter with shorter sleeves. My parents bought me a few when our sports team won the Superbowl and they’re huge! Well, they’re short, but soooo wide. Clearly they were planning for chubbier kids to be wearing them. They definitely don’t fit the way a youth large used to fit.
I have a booty. It sticks out and every time I try to buy jeans I want to pull out my hair! LOL! Cheap jeans always seem to be cut for someone who is straight up and down no matter what the size. I get it to fit around my butt and there is always a huge gap in the waist. What ends up happening? I have to look at expensive jeans. The expensive ones apparently understand that women are not straight up and down sticks. The last pair I bought were $140. I’m at the point where I don’t care about the price anymore, just as long as they fit. And they usually last me awhile, so I suppose I can say it’s an investment.
Well according to Stacy London and Clinton Kelly on “What Not To Wear” – it’s not supposed to be easy :~( Of course, they are both about perfect. Those ladies try on tons of stuff before they find the right fit and look.
Of course, once they make a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly you better snatch up a few because they’ll be discontinued next week. That’s what I did – I was sad when they discontinued the style that fit me best. The other problem, I’m a little fuller than I was 8 years ago when I first found them.
Let me just say I HATE Ugg boots and their ridiculous prices. They just look stupid and they are TERRIBLE for your feet.
And it seems like all the girls in Japan are so tiny with no hips and tiny feet, so no wonder they have only 3 sizes D: I would never make it over there!
Kate, I have the same issue with my calves. I play DDR and have always just been active ( I run around with kids 40 hours a week! ), so my calves are just muscular. The only boots that have ever gone over my calves are the Route 66 boots from KMart, and that’s only if I’m wearing leggings, not pants. If not, I just keep them scrunched down so they look like scrunchy ankle boots.
Style frustrates me. We are obviously not freakishly built, we are the way normal people look, it’s just the what’s “in” is being tiny everywhere and having huge boobs, so I guess we just missed out on that.
I hate the media and whoever decided this crap was in, leaving the normal ones out ;/ Makes my life more miserable than it needs to be.
Heeyyy…I love Uggs!
And Birkenstocks too, but I get tired of being told I’m wearing ‘caveman shoes’. >.<
I actually get a type of boots called Emus, which are lighter and cheaper than Uggs, and they last longer too. But they look just like them.
I just picked up a few pairs of Danskin sweat pants that don’t look too hideous. Comfy too. Plus a few nice striped sweaters since I still feel cold even though the temps are into the 50’s above…problem is, the sweaters don’t look as good as they did 6 years ago… *sigh* It’s nice to not have to wear a bra anymore, but some days I miss the ol’ ta-tas. ;_; That and my more ‘masculine’ wardrobe…I get tired of being mistaken for a dude. It was bad enough when I was a kid and my mom would cut my hair in a pixie each summer and I hadn’t filled out yet. It’s distressing as a young girl to have store clerks ask, “Is that all for you today SIR?”
Clothes can’t just be pretty, they have to feel good to wear. I don’t like to buy at WalMart, but they often have stuff that’s going away for the next season and it’s all very cheap, unfortunately I buy so many extras I still spend a wad of cash.
*sigh* I need to move to the islands maybe…where I don’t have to wear much more than a mumu and sandals. Lots of room in one of those for my ginormous fanny and no one will care that I don’t have boobs. ^_^
Oh yeah…5’3″ (my gyn told me I lost an inch) and at last count, 130 pounds! 0_o;; I have NO idea how that happened! I used to be 5’4″ and 105 for so many years…I hate walking too because it’s hard dragging this caboose around.
Ummm…are we going to have a BB.com weight loss thread for this month? I don’t want to hijack this one….
I can feel my mom glaring at you from Canada MM
She’s 5’3 and 130 lol. And she looks good! I bet you do too, you are just too critical of yourself ![]()
It depends on your body frame I think. I just feel that I look from the back like a bus going down the road, when I used to be a Corvette…lol.
No offense meant to your mum, of course. ^_^
Oh and the young kids’ shirts and stuff…btdt…I think that’s where I’ve gotten all my Happy Bunny things. For some reason the manufacturers don’t believe people my age should be wearing such clothes.
Kids get all the cute stuff…bleah!
Mimz, I’m 5’5”, 138 pounds. My heaviest was 145 and that was when I was a teenager. I drank a lot of soda. Now, I’m in more shape. I WAS 141 when I lost my mom (I was 125 before my mom got sick but I was not healthy) but now I’m 138. I think it has to do with my muscle gain. I’m fine with it though
. Most people think I’m about 110 pounds ![]()
LOL Happy BUnny!!!
My mom liked HB!!!
Healthy? Errr, not sure about that, lol. College life = too much ramen and not enough sleep
.
5’5″ and 110lb sounds pretty thin, but I swear all my fat collects on my behind and thighs…I’m skinny as a stick everywhere else. I wouldn’t mind at all gaining some weight if it would make me look less awkwardly disproportionate, but no such luck. My boyfriend tells me that people pay money for surgery and do endless exercises to get a behind like mine, and that he loves it…but I’m not buying it, lol.
I will trade someone my spare tire for some booty! 😛
I gained 15lbs after moving in with my husband (about 5lbs per year) and I’m slowly getting rid of it. I’m down about 8lbs (since last July) and I have 7lbs to go before I’m back where I was. I was happy at my old weight, so I hope I get back there someday! I’m so bad at losing weight. I eat healthy foods, but I eat large portions and I’m trying really hard to only eat until I’m not hungry, then stop.
I need to lose 20lbs. I need to get active and eat better. But it’s hard cause I’m lazy. Coupled with being in pain and depressed and it’s even harder. I would like to buy a healthy cookbook but……no money for that. So yeah. Plus since I have no money, I’m basically at my dad’s mercy when it comes to groceries. And what I would buy for myself he’d freak out at. Like I drink organic milk because it’s a small way to cut down on chemicals and stuff. But at around $3.50 for a half gallon, my dad would freak. lol And let’s not even go into Lolli’s salad mix. He buys iceberg lettuce to eat. So $4-$5 for a tub of Lolli’s lettuce is outrageous to him. lol
Michelle, you can find lots of healthy recipes online! I like Epicurious for recipes. They’re not specifically meant to be healthy, but you can make most things healthy by using less fat (if the recipe calls for a lot) and loading in tons of veggies. Just cooking for yourself will automatically give you less fat and salt in your diet (though, as I’ve proven, you can still get too many calories :-P)
take up sewing, you can take bigger clothes and make them fit in all the right places. the internet shows so many ways to take in your clothes. i personally only have problems with shoes (fricking size 11!) but i can deal. im the kinda girl who wears leather and black eyeliner. dyed my hair Hailey Williams orange (even though i cant stand her, my fiance has an obsession) i can get around my large feet issue, im almost 6 feet tall.
oops… [sneaks out quietly]
aerosmith, I have no patience nor time to make clothes lol. i do have a sewing machine but i would need to take a class to learn how to properly sew. I only use it for crafts.
I stopped caring about weight a long time ago. I have always worked out, and I have a gym membership. Muscle DOES weigh more than fat, in case any of you are wondering. I am 5’5″ and 180lbs but I fit into Medium/Large pants and Medium/Large shirts (large sometimes because of my 39″ odd ribcage) and I am told by everyone who is honest I look 120lbs. Weight really doesn’t mean much if you’re active. I have so much muscle from being on my feet all day with my class AND working out AND running to 3 trains on Fridays and Sundays that it’s not even funny.
But they don’t make clothes for people who have a larger ribcage or are active (especially muscle-y calves!), and I think that’s where a lot of our problems lie, which is sad. It’s like saying everyone woman should just starve their way skinny, which is disgusting, but not entirely new.
It’s sort of new. It wasn’t that long ago that the girls every man wanted had curves and big hips. Better for child bearing you know ![]()
Yeah all these new girls with size 00 hips can’t have children without a c-section : D And who wants that ugly scare + surgery?
I think my boyfriend likes how I look. I’ve been told my hips will be good for child bearing, hahahaha. My friend who is tall and thin wants to take my hips.
i looked at size 00 pants o_O;; Are those for pre-pubescent (sp?) kids?
I used to wear a size 0. Did for a good 10 years lol. then i moved here and gained weight >.>
Lucky
I’m a size 9-11 in Juniors pants. As I said, nobody believes me D: LOL
Monkeybun, I got my skirt in the mail
That one that I tried on at Macys!!!!!
My dad is going to buy me shoes for work this weekend.. I need another pair, as the shoes I am using is for my work out and I don’t wanna use those anymore!!! 2 friends have recommended Reebok Shape ups… they said the highness of the shoe is lower than the Sketchers one. i’ll have to throw in some soles in the shoes.
So, a little off topic but I decided to curl my hair today and look nice for a change. Usually, being an art student, I am grungy at best and always covered in paint, paint thinner, plaster, saw dust and who knows what else.

livingonfaith854 I have the exact same poster!! haha
livingonfaith854 I have the exact same poster!! haha
My boyfriend had a collection of maps on the wall when I moved in, but they were all ancient. I bought him that one, so now he watches C-span and whips around to check populations and locations of tiny countries they talk about. It cracks me up how excited he gets.
