i’m a dog person.  with dogs, especially with certain breeds, opposite sex pairs are usually the most successful.  i was wondering if it was the same for rabbits?  rue’s breeder just had a litter of holland lops, and i’d love to bring one home.  rue will be spayed by the time the new baby is ready to leave mama, and the baby would be altered as soon as it is old enough.  so i’m wondering if i should choose a specific gender to make bonding easier?

Well, i bonded 2 girls. It’s usually up to the bunnies, some bond easy to opposite genders, others not so easily.

I think it depends upon the personality of a rabbit.. I think that we don’t know until they are paired up via bunny dating.

I honestly would let Rue pick her friend and it’s very hard to tell with babies too. You want to wait until Rue is spayed and old enough. In any event, no matter what the sex or age, you may have to help with bonding your rabbits.

The general wisdom is that male + female is easiest, followed by male + male, then female + female. There are always exceptions to this though, which is why it’s best to let your bunny pick their new friend. If you get a baby, do it with the knowledge that they may never bond, or it may be very difficult.

If you are set on getting a baby bunny, keep in mind that males can be neutered 2-3 months sooner than females. You’d still have to wait 2-3 months to start bonding (8 week old bunny… neuter at 3-4 months + 1 month healing time), but if you got a female, you’d be waiting closer to 6 months. If this is a concern, I’d look for a male (or better yet, adopt a bunny who is already neutered.)

i dont think it matters what sex, pick whichever baby bunn bunn you want its reali just the personality of your rabbit which will decide if he or she likes the new rabbit. but usualy its easier to have a boy and girl rabbit bonded, and then two boys … but the hardest would probably two girls
